I have been taking care of my partner suffering a chronic illness for 2-3 years now and it is phenomenal that this on the top of HN. I've had to figure out a lot of this for myself having made many mistakes and I still just learned a

Yeah the post uses dramatic turns of phrase like this to associate a mediocre point with something topical to get to the top of hackernews. I'm honestly not sure whats being said here because frankly im not sure who, before seeing this

I feel as though i am honor-bound to say that this isn't new and we havent really been living in a place where we can trust in the way you claim. Its simply that every year it rapidly becomes more and more clear that there is no "

I absolutely agree with you on this. I definitely feel like the viewpoint is forced on me on all social media and all media with a social component (like youtube!) To digress a bit about your last sentence: my opinion, though, is that the

people have been saying this since we first migrated away from listserv. look, the corporate influence on the internet has absolutely made it worse and continues to make it less accessible to humans but the authors overarching world view is

If con ed wasn’t a private org this wouldn’t be an issue. The people who live here gain absolutely nothing from their acting as a profit seeking middleman: indeed all we get is a totally unaccountable actor who can hide surprises all over o

Precisely: tools don't have morality. We have to engage in political and social struggle to make our conditions better. These tools can help but they certainly wont do it for us, nor will they be the reason why things go bad.

this was my experience so i was not surprised to read about the ps3 stuff. about 8 or 9 years ago i made a comment somewhere in the depths of HN with more information. honestly i dont really care about GH so much as I wish other people who

sorry i shouldn't have said "arm architecture" there obviously arm32 wasnt anything new: i figured that was implied. we wanted specifics on the S5L8900 and they were (and still are) quite hard to come by. this contributed to

ooo good point it’s been so long I might be misremembering. the reason I commented was because I thought you had to put the device in DFU to upload the image to the Media dir that was mounted rw. But again it’s been 15 years lol

Also the part where you talk about “recovery mode” I think we referred to this as DFU mode back in the day. “Device firmware update” I’m not entirely sure it was called “recovery” at the time though I could be wrong as it’s been more than 1

That is the point: when people in a liberal democracy want to make it more democratic this gets called a “communist dictatorship” and the far right that is paid to usurp it gets labeled as the “lesser of two evils.” Every time, every place.

Perhaps my explanation wasn’t the best but academic organizations have been wielding and abusing the law to shield themselves from criticism and consequence for forever. And the same goes for the private sector when it gets brought to task

While I do agree with a lot of this, it strikes me that what may be occurring is simply shoddy academic work. But since the context in which it is happening is one of claimed progressiveness we get an existential and philosophical takedown
