Couldn't agree more. How many times do we have to violently overthrow popularly elected governments until you realize that your brand of socialism doesn't work!?

To say nothing about BC politics I do wish we had some sort of licensure in the public interest for software engineering in the US. It has just as much ethical implication as architecture or being a lawyer.

I enjoyed this blog post but, broadly, conversation on the topic of news epistemology has always irked me because i detect an implication that there exists an "unbiased" recounting of events. This is naive.

Observe how the top comments in here leave a climate-change shaped hole in the discourse. Sigh.

This is hard to quantify so people will insist it’s not happening. But I have seen it too: there’s a set within America which insist it’s getting more dangerous regardless of which way the trend line points.

At least some of them are “real” in the sense that I recognize the gifs from around the internet / their source videos :)

Yeah I have no desire to defend the FDA here but summarizing this as “I care about the dying while this government agency is only concerned with politics” does a massive disservice to the argument. It is political will that is responsible f

its my experience that you can say this for most things the non-academic community does. this isn't a criticism of them or you for saying it, but its p constant. the worst offenders in my experience are AAA game devs. ive had so many c

This does say a bit more about the sorts of things his engineers are doing than he intends, i think.

Try a 1100 lumen LIFX bulb. Overpriced but you’ll get the brightness you’re looking for if you have a fixture it’ll be a fit for.

I hear all these horror stories but I have bought about 10 Hue bulbs in as many years and I still use each one. Also, im extremely sensitive to flickering and temp and I notice nothing at all. Im sure if I spent 10 dollars per instead of 30

There is no way except property seizure and capital reallocation at a large scale. This wont happen, so we're effectively doomed to suffer the slow violence of the inaction of our owners who themselves will never live to feel the harm

Profit motive above all else is fundamentally incompatible with the social engine that powers the open source community. It always has been and always will be. I'm no longer surprised, but im still disappointed.

Im really happy that people are talking about this but the article doesn't seem to consider the fact that over this period we (americans) have also dramatically increased the quality and breadth of our conversation around mental health

Some of these really speak to me, but others, like the conflation of “diversity” with modern American political conservatism, are frustrating.

My girlfriend got sick and now I have a part time caring responsibility that’s mostly about doing chores and errands. I’m in better physical shape now and oddly feel more capable at my engineering job.

There are so many ways in which this article really puts on display the purpose of the WSJ it’s hard to count. The most important ones are 1) labor organization (unions) are responsible for the meager gains. That’s it. If higher wage earner
