I'm not talking about my specific social circle, I'm talking about general trends. With regards to Facebook Messenger, take a look at its one-star rating on the Apple Store, or the dozens and dozens of blog posts and tech articles

I've said it a lot on HN, but in my opinion, there's nothing rotten in the state of social media. Social media itself is inherently rotten. Twitter, Facebook, et al taking away users' rights, pushing crappy updates and change

Based on my experiences with Twitter, this is totally correct, but you forgot one key part: echo chamber. In addition to doing all that you describe, Twitter also encourages you to ignore anyone claiming otherwise - somebody has a differenc

I don't think it's presented as a "big deal." I read it as a fun little experiment.

I think it would still be significantly too fast. That oversubscribed PHP hosting is still sitting on a dedicated server that does nothing but serve TCP/IP all day. My hunch is that the code is very heavily optimized for most productio

For sure, it might be, but what I'm saying is that's not the primary intention. It would be nice if it happened, but it's not necessarily going to unless this gets serious traction.

Hmm, I hadn't considered that. It could be. I dunno. Anyway, they definitely want to keep their acquisitions pretty separate for the time being.

Absolutely! That's exactly my point. And again, I'm not saying that's wrong or bad. I'm saying it's the smart, albeit cynical move.

I'll explicate a little more. Obviously, I'm not Bolt and can't know what their thought process was. If it were me, though, here's what I'd do: I'd be angry that they're probably stealing my app's nam

With acquisitions, Facebook has generally left the acquired company mostly alone (if it's big and successful already). Instagram, Occulus and WhatsApp as examples. Instagram competes with Facebook in some ways, too, but it's still

This is a well-written appeal. I'm sure, however, that there's no intention of getting Instagram to actually do anything - the fact it was posted publicly, along with the "hurts us more than it hurts you" line makes that

I don't think this is a worthless or uninteresting article - but I think the author is missing the point. WE are the dragons. Us. Human beings. We're the evolutionary exception, the ultimate apex predator, and so on.

Probably just long enough for them to make a too-polite-to-be-ironic "thank you for using our development environment" blog post where they shut it down and shunt what's left to a private API for the apps they're current

Given all the people in this post that are talking about wanting a 3D Star Trek game that lets you explore ships, I think I should plug RPG-X, a free game based on Star Trek: Elite Force that lets you do just that. [1] Full disclosure: I he

I enjoy articles like these because I have a certain inborn hatred of social media and social networks, and I get schadenfreude from seeing them fail. That said, I'd like to believe it - that Facebook and Twitter are happenstance lucky
