I'm going to second this, massively. Games are both serious software (take a look at how big of a chunk of the entertainment industry they represent), and often make for difficult problems. Your interviewer was just an ass.

Globalized capitalism has caused the largest reduction in poverty ever. If you had to be randomly born anywhere in the world, only getting to pick the date, you'd be smart to pick today if you wanted a decent shot at life. Now, with r

If I recall, they made these purchases in 2010. So just AQ linked Iraqi warlords (who you could probably bet on having joined ISIS). Ironically, if these artifacts were from northern Iraq, where ISIS has had its main destructive presence,

Hi Peter, thanks for this AMA. Just because the information isn't perfectly clear: how long can a green card be renewed for? I got mine a couple years ago, but I have to wonder how long it gives me to stay in the states beyond the 10

I'm not convinced it's reasonable to call it a problem. Prohibitionists have done little good, particularly when it comes to lighter drugs, such as alcohol or marijuana.

There have been a multitude of generational shifts over the years. If you think that thinking it is happening (again) and that being hopeful that people move on is a bad thing, I'm sure you think of the shift away from subsistence far

I think tech happens to avoid trolls because trolling tech really only happens when someone who's a little clueless asks a dumb question. How many "How do I do (x)?" questions get a "rm -rf /" as the response?

Labor, at least in manufacturing is also very much down overseas. I agree with your sentiment, but forcing jobs to exist when it's not efficient lowers everyone's quality of life. Instead, tax the gains and uplift the people who

I'm concerned we're going to see unprecedented levels of constitutional and legal violations from this particular executive branch. Checks and balances are great, but not when they happen after the fact. And no, the president is

If I understand it right this is the first time an AG has been relieved for purely political reasons. If the AG doesn't think it's likely they'll win a defense, that usually doesn't cause an issue. As an edit: it probab

I just don't see how that's a good model. Make high school a little harder and let the degree have some worth, and have it so it's only 1/3rd or less that don't continue after the first couple semesters. In the co

I'm not sure high school completion would reflect well on that. We already have a significant number of people not finishing college and university. Wasting resources on more profs doing remedial teaching wouldn't do any good.

I find metal is one of the more interestingly diverging genres. The range of sound that falls under 'metal' is shocking. You can go from slow, with clean vocals and a (fairly) relaxing sound, to something earshattering. Also, yo

I think what amuses me most is that the biggest donors seem to be people looking to advertise. At the moment it's a vehicle code scanner, LEO/Tachical gear, flavored nicotine (I guess?), and a BBQ thermometer.
