We have large banks blocking pasting in password fields [1], and suggesting users not use password managers. I'd actually say security research firms have pretty high quality security people, however, and not just the tech giants. 1.

I've always liked the idea of a month of severance per year worked, starting at three months after the first year. Then again, that sort of deal doesn't always work, or fit the business.

I'm not so sure. Maybe "don't be a trash publication that skirts the law, and then defies orders to take things down when told by a judge".

Microsoft is distributing a VM image of FreeBSD through their marketplace in binary format, that has been modified to be used on their cloud service. The license they choose to distribute it under is completely harmless, and you're st

Well, if anything good comes of that is a different question, but with his NextBSD project he looked to trying something with OS X's init system IIRC.

The last comment on that issue from alexandrudima makes it look like it'll be in the next release, if we're lucky.

Really, this shouldn't come as a surprise. At this point, pre-loaded systems just aren't worth trusting. Better to remove them entirely and start from square one. It's a pain, but until consumers put more pressure on manuf

Just as a suggestions for the balance there, why not set a price ratio between the two? It would be a little odd to have a CPU that's 20% the cost of the GPU, so why not target something above that point?

I really think it's a shame that they moved to the F-35, instead of just continuing to produce F-22s. Stupid export ban. Then again, the extra payload may have been worth it.

Had the feds not been so abusive, many of the people who are completely lawful wouldn't be at the point of being okay with the feds having a hard time. I think going tit for tat would be fine, but I totally understand why some people

Just taking a guess here: the really interesting technical submissions might just appeal to the users who are fond of that subset of tech, but the political ones have a broader interest? Or maybe it's that the technical submissions do

If they're not doing a 'clean room' rewrite, I'd agree. Otherwise? That's their choice, and it's one I'm glad to see. This could be quite useful for OSes that aren't GPL'd, like the BSDs, or R

If one group were to sue Canonical, it would likely be the Conservancy, as the issue is the GPL not allowing for ZFS to be included.
