99% of the market for smart phones, before the iPhone were corporate customers. We do care about what our users can install on OUR phones, we also don't want to only be able to install OUR software on OUR phones for OUR users with Steve Job

If you are distributing a proprietary bit of software you presumably have a method for counting how many copies you sold in order to know how many $ you should have. If you are giving it away then why not just use the GPL version
