I saw trucks working on all the poles up and down my street. Sure enough, a month or so later their site showed my address eligible for gigabit. Goodbye Comcast!

Yeah, just a portion of it (a modified fork of the GL bindings). We wrap our own framework around the bindings and combine that with SDL2, plus Cairo/Pango for vector drawing and writing text to textures, libogg/libopus for audio

I second that sentiment. I mostly use C# for work - about half web stuff and half OpenGL-based user interfaces, and it's a real boon to be able to do all my work in Linux. Some other C# devs here work on Macs. We all appreciate the Mon

He's actually surprised me lately. He figured out how to install a spreadsheet app (libre office I think) and has been using it for his work spreadsheets (he's a contractor). To be fair, he probably wouldn't have been able to

I agree that VS and ReSharper together are a great way to code. If only they ran on other platforms. It's almost tragic.

When my dad's laptop broke, he picked up my spare Ubuntu laptop and has been using it for the last two years. I know it's just one anecdote, but when it saves me a crap-ton of money and time, it seems very real to me. He could hav

I'm so onboard with what you're saying. I've been using mono for the last couple years, so much so that I call myself a "mono developer" and not a ".NET developer". I worked at Microsoft for a couple years

I was reading that with a big smile on my face. They're doing a lot of stuff I've been wanting for a while, especially the web server agnosticism. My new LAMP stack: Linux, ASP.NET, Mono, PostgreSQL.

There was a pretty good two-parter on DS9 where an admiral took advantage of the fear around the dominion war to over-step his bounds and implement secretive/draconian security measures until Sisko "blows the whistle." Probab

I think what we witnessed was a tipping of the scales on those issues in terms of public opinion. Very slow to get to this point, but once it starts moving, it moves pretty fast.

As a person who likes C# and MVC but doesn't like Windows, I've hoped for this for a long time. The fact that Microsoft is going to include mono in their tests is awesome. It's like a genie granted me a wish.

I have both Comcast and DSL available here, but the fastest DSL is 5mbit. That barely counts as connected. So in my mind, Comcast has a complete monopoly here even though DSL is available.

I'm confused, since when does Amazon Fresh take 2 days? I put in an order last night around 11pm and the stuff was on my doorstep at 4am.

One admittedly crazy theory is that this is laying the groundwork for building iOS apps and therefore would compete with Xamarin. Any kind of JIT would not be allowed on the iOS app store.

Yeah, and mono's AOT too. I wonder if this is really just ngen integration into VS and thus not really a big deal.

It seems like this is basically just the same thing that Mono has done for a long time with AOT. I'm not really sure how it differs from the Ngen tool, though.

Couldn't this be solved by offering different tiers of service? Say, keep the existing service but add another one at a higher price that allows you to select your preferred carriers. People pay more for first class seats on an airplan
