Burnt through some credits pretty quickly. The first few minutes of using it felt like a glimpse of what it was supposed to be like, but otherwise it spent a lot of time not getting basic things right with the UI and before I knew it I was

Kate has been a really good replacement for stuff like VSCode or BBEdit, but it's still got some rough edges on macOS in my experience. I mostly use it on Linux, and the LSP support is actually pretty good. It's definitely a bareb

Interesting, I haven't hit many issues myself but it definitely seems like it's not as polished as I thought. It's definitely not as "vanilla" as Rancher Desktop, but I like the way it lets you do more outside of ju

I'm curious what issues you have with it, as it should be pretty much a 1:1 replacement when you use the Docker compatibility for most people. Rancher Desktop is also a pretty good replacement as well there are things that aren't

Most interview loops aren't just 4-6 hours, though. A lot of times the virtual on-sites are 5+ hours alone, and then you still usually have 2-4 stages of scattered interviews before you even get there. It's also not an efficient w

I'm not sure why you think MAUI is a great choice considering its current status. There is a huge lack of learning resources, a very tiny community, and very few-to-none successful applications built entirely using MAUI at this point.

The market dictates what things mean, whether or not we agree with it. Is DevOps a position, a philosophy, a framework? According to the job market it can be any of things. In my experience interviewing for and working in SRE roles, most pe

I'd like to see the inverse for dealing with difficult managers, including boxing them into similar reductive stereotypes like the "spineless doormat" and the "non-technical MBA."

As someone who would actually relocate, I've found it very hard to find companies that would offer relocation reimbursement since they either want someone who is already local or the job is remote but with an optional office available

I was a BA in Japanese graduate during the 2008-2009 recession and ended up doing IT for a little bit, took time off to teach English, and ended up going back to school for a BSc in Software Development. I landed my first software job over

I don't see how the JVM is a "poor fit for games" when it's entirely contextual towards the goals of the game itself. Garbage collection also does not automatically disqualify an environment from games development, and t

If people aren't pushing then people won't use it. There are plenty of niche and esoteric languages that could be considered "good" (whatever that means) but aren't being actively used.

As someone who was diagnosed early in childhood with ADHD, it wasn't until I was older that I put together the fact that I almost always had a fan on in the background whenever I was trying to concentrate on things and the impact outsi

I think a lot of people just use auto high-beams on their Teslas, but it seems to be very hit-or-miss if it actually works properly or not.

A lot of the comments seem to focus on ICs/devs, but for me the people who fit the category of person being discussed are managers, people who basically do nothing and don't contribute anything of value.

I regularly buy a lot of books and go through periods where I read a lot or don't read much at all. Like most ADHD folks I think it's related to hyper-fixation most of the time, but sometimes it's just plain old motivation. O

I think something like Racket or other Lisps are much easier to wrap your head around as a first principles language. Python has its own set of problems, and JavaScript is complicated even for experienced programmers. If something more &quo

I don't think TrueOS is worth running day-to-day right now because of the constant changes and tweaks between versions, but I think OpenBSD and FreeBSD both work great, though the latter requires some work out of the box. OpenBSD folks

I switched to Vultr from OVH for learning/testing stuff, mostly because of the double credit promotion. I think being able to upload your own ISO or use OpenBSD on these services is a big plus. They're also giving 50GB of block st

I am self-learning programming and find HN to be a good resource, even if a lot of it is over my head. There's also discussion here that doesn't exist on other websites about things I like, such as the BSDs and Lisps. It's al
