We're you around for the space race? It's a world prestige thing, and also a competitive edge, for better or worse.

Do you think AI will go away and suddenly businesses will start hiring people back? Or that a competitive startup won't lean on AI to get ahead? Doesn't matter how much stock prices move up and down...AI is here to stay and no amo

A lot of businesses depend on the Internet. AI will be the same in the future. Not sure what to say about the ups and downs of stock price, or hype cycles.

The problem with public policy is that it allows other countries to get ahead of you. 'AI' isn't just a tool, it's also a race.

So what? So you must now produce more. Expectations have changed. If you are paid the same money, and work has become easier: balance is lost. Someone will compete and take your place. Now you're expected to produce more, or step aside

Evil wins when the Good do nothing. How hard should we 'try', how much time should a person spend working, learning, versus living?

That's the danger behind economy and society: we all must be useful in some way. We all have to find 'value' in some way. We take on 'roles' so we can contribute. Roles are necessary because we simply don't hav

I have zero opinion about the state of the world. I'm just making an observation. Awareness of issues only gets you so far. But it factors into daily decisions. And when it's all too much to bear, we just push it out of mind and c

Probably too early for this, but I'm reminded of the Rolling Stones, Sympathy for the Devil. Evil acts made real by the decisions of those at the top, and the rest of us reject the acts. But quitely we accept these acts by being satisf

It's not necessarily a lack of investment. Cyber security researchers are using AI to discover and post very serious Linux vulnerabilities that give root. We should expect to see more of this type of activity for a while. We're ta

Sorry, didn't mean to offend you. My tone is bad. I just wanted to make a distinction between human nature and the benefits of specialization within an economy. You mentioned being an expert in a single domain, which I interpreted as s

That isn't human nature at all, that is a feature of our economy. The human nature bit is that we are inclined to follow conviction: belief in an idea. And if someone says something with conviction, whether true or not, our first insti

I'm not sure why analogies are needed. There's an old saying: Time is money. Flip that around: Money is time. If you have money, you have more time, more opportunities to try things in order to find success. You can read all about

For sure, pain is useful when it leads to learning. We learn through feedback from our senses. We're completely dependent upon this mode in the beginning. As our brains mature, we learn how to predict our environments in ways to maximi

That's a very meta view. There's levels to consciousness for sure, due to intelligence and perception. But, my mind never leaves my skull so it's definitely bound to my brain and nothing else (ignoring electrical fields). We

Maybe it helps to consider motivation. Humans do what we do because of emotions and an underlying unconsciousness. An AI on the other hand is only ever motivated by a prompt. We get better results when we use feedback loops to refine output

You can completely abstain from smoking for health reasons and there's no downside. Screentime is a part of life. You can abstain but you fall behind in some ways. Screen time is also linked to the pace of technology, advancement, etc.
