I use nextjs and it is not comparable to Django’s vast ecosystem for making large scale SaaS backends.

Sorry, shouldn’t have said hire from but rather “contract” from. Right now I run an engineering team from brasil but it’s on a contractor basis through a brasil company. Fantastic results. Incredible developer community. Deep desire to buil

I ran an American office in brasil. The best developer community! But drug down by bureaucracy. The reality is that running a company in brasil is about 1000x harder than the US. Much stronger rights for the enployees. We had employees esse

It’s not a criticism of flossing but a criticism for health professionals recommending and putting so much trust in a health procedure that has very little proof it works.

That’s a self reported study and doesn’t control for the effectiveness of flossing. It’s generally accepted if you are flossing then generally you brush more often and more completely and in overall better mental and physical health than if

Ok, but that’s your feeling and that isn’t linked to any long term health of the mouth in controlled studies. If you brush and rinse, statistically it has a better effect than just brushing and flossing.

Im not disputing anything other than when directly compared flossing does not prevent gingivitis, plaque or cavities better than a combined brushing and mouth rinse with regular professional cleanings. Flossing is generally associated with

It’s always important to ask why and look for the data yourself. Look at all the wives tales in the past that were semi-effective just because of placebo effects or like you say implementing a health measure (even if it is not directly effe

If you look up academic studies on flossing they nearly all say the same thing, it doesn’t prevent cavities more than brushing and the studies normally end with “well flossing isn’t hurting anything so might as well keep doing it”. Flossing

Not really. Rust is significantly more discussed than Haskell ever was. Haskell barely ever had more than a couple hundred comments / posts. Rust has thousands. Haskell was never discussed more than Ruby or Python and you can go to the

Not really, Rust can be 1% of the codebase but by Rusts nature it is implemented the most critical paths. Rust is insanely awesome for embedding. So you can have Python app that 90% of your team works on and embed Rust for the critical part

Where your argument goes awry is that this discussion is about Elixir. The points you make I did not see happening in the Elixir community so I left even though I was a staunch advocate for years. Programs are meant to be read by humans. Wh

Large companies like Meta, Google, etc have Rust as part of their official stack. The market cap of companies that have Rust listed is pretty significant compared to Elixir.

The discussion is why isn’t it more mainstream not is it good. Like you said it’s mostly senior expensive engineers. They are really good, but is it worth it? Do 90% of startups need it? I have had success hiring younger inquiring Elixir en

I guess my point would be that Rust is also could be considered an esoteric niche language with a lot fewer engineers than Python, but I would choose Rust over Elixir because of the benefits. I think PGs advice really depends on the foundin

The big difference when I use Rust is that in Rust every variable you accept in a function requires you to make that choice. Whereas JS it’s kind of chosen for you. In your example you had to go out of your way to do it. So just a bit more

Shameless plug: I'm an engineer at eShares, and we have been making a big push to bring transparency to employee compensation. Last month we published a guide for option grants, which includes information on taxes, vesting, expirations
