I'm also somewhat concerned that if programming were to become my day job, I would lose interest in it. ...Or, as it sometimes happens, you lose interest in writing software for other people .

Thanks for writing the JOE editor. I've been using it for simple text editing tasks (commit messages, etc.) now that I've moved over to a Linux system. I appreciate its simplicity.

Probably also worth mentioning hledger[0], the Haskell version of ledger which has a limited but growing number of features. They also provide a text-based (hledger-ui) and a web-based (hledger-web) interface. For my simple needs, this is t

And if you are naming kids and want to save them a lot of bureaucracy in their lives, give them short names. I think it depends. Sometimes it's helpful to give them names that are just long enough to make their identities unique, so

The simplicity of GitHub’s pull request has killed the GPL. Is that true? Doesn't having the ability to send pull requests (or merge requests as GitLab people would prefer) make it easier to contribute?

In general, the older you get, the more "boxed in" you become by your history. At this point, it's either I start at the very bottom, competing with people fresh off school who are willing to work for next to nothing, or make

Agreed. I initially thought he was referring to editors like Leo ( http://leoeditor.com/ ) or Code Browser ( http://tibleiz.net/code-browser/ ), but now I'm not sure.

The closest example I can probably give is that of Basecamp. They were formerly known as 37signals, and IIRC, they changed their name to Basecamp because it's their most well-known product, among other reasons.

I'd say it would be better to compare Kallithea with Chisel ( http://chiselapp.com/ ), which does actual hosting for Fossil projects. I see Fossil more as a VCS by itself.
