I don't buy this all-or-nothing argument. People in the US have tried to ban books, heavy metal music, video games etc. And the idea that we've ONLY survived those attempts because we allow people to fly/wear swastikas is rid

I am American, but I believe the American view of "we must allow everything so that important things aren't censored" is wrong. I believe it is possible to avoid the slippery slope and just ban certain things. For example, Na

At this point I just make a quick guess and try not to spend any more time thinking about estimation. In my experience, all time spent estimating is time wasted. If there is some hard date that needs to be met, I have the luxury of ditching

The difference is that I am not asking you to take anything on faith. I am saying it is wrong to torture animals, and you (most likely) agree with me. Some people think it is fine to kill animals for food, but most people would not DIRECTLY

The problem is that we are not having the same conversation. I am talking about torturing animals and you aren't. I'm not trying to talk down to you, but it's impossible for it to be seen any other way. Sometimes there is a r

Exactly. As long as we are supplementing B12 (easily done) there are no other nutrients that we are short on. Here is a link to some vegan athletes and a snooker player. https://www.greatveganathletes.com/

This isn't really a new electric car problem. My 1988 Toyota Tercel did the same thing. Transmission broke and left me completely stranded in the middle of the highway. No way to shift into neutral, no way to move the car. Super danger

It's actually not THAT difficult to win people over. At least slowly. In the past 20 years the USA has gone from less than 1% vegan to 6% vegan. I used to have to go to the hippie grocery store to get things like Soy Milk, now they are

I went vegan decades ago and these sorts of discussions always crack me up. I understand that for a lot of people (myself included at one time) giving up meat sounds absolutely impossible to imagine. But in reality, it is very simple. These

Think about this for a second. If you give 100,000 pre-teens an HPV vaccine, how long do you have to wait to discover if they are more or less likely to contract genital warts? Now compare that to how long you would have to wait to see if t

Take this as anecdotal because I am not aware of a study being done, but many people with long COVID report the vaccination improving their symptoms. This seems to argue that there is additional defense in getting vaccinated.

My Blackberry was BY FAR the best phone I've ever owned for texting and email. It was so superior that it barely compares. I could type without looking, which is a HUGE feature when walking or texting discretely in a meeting (or a conv

I am not very familiar with GraphQL, but on first look it seems more suited to a public API. For an internal app, when we know EXACTLY what data is needed for each page, this seems like wasted effort. Any thing in particular you suggest che

I could not agree more. This is the way I design things and it makes life so much easier. It solves so many problems by just building a separate API for each app. They can all use and re-use the same underlying functions and logic, but each

I went from a career as a full-time musician to a tech worker. When I say "career", I mean that I literally got by with the minimum of everything. It was fine in my 20s, but quickly became unsustainable in my 30s. This is why so m

I've always been involved in things that require intense periods of work (recording an album, directing a movie, writing my own startup's software) and I really enjoy it. I cannot imagine doing that much work for someone else thou

I'm still not convinced of this. At least not among people who live in their houses. If you're not planning on moving, an underwater mortgage isn't a "problem" unless you lose your job, or have an other emergency. I

I still think you are underappreciating the difference between people who buy homes and people who rent. To buy a house, you need a certain income, a down payment etc. The people who live in low income housing have none of those things and

I'm sort of at a loss for understanding the misunderstanding here. Someone without equity in their home probably cannot get a loan of any sort. Access to capital, as a loan or any other form, is a huge thing. So if your home gives you
