If you're actually curious about what the argument is, the broadcasters' petition for Supreme Court review lays it out: http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/documents/Aereo102813...

If I'm reading the SEC rules correctly, to be an eligible investor, you must have an income in excess of $200K. Is that right?

This is a common story: "I went into the store and asked for ______. The sales guy just laughed." Has it ever actually happened to anyone? That's not how retail employees work at all.

I like your attitude, although you remind me somewhat of the title character in Jean de Florette ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091288/ ).

I liked it. I was in fact not aware of the driving idea behind iFixit, and I was inspired to check it out after hearing about this guy's values and where they came from.

All bases are base 10 within that base. So actually, base 10 is about as non-arbitrary as it gets. </nyuknyuk>

Which is a real scandal, by the way. It's utterly surreal that a file format with some of the most well-documented metadata on the planet is organized into libraries that begin by creating an entirely new, entirely redundant library of meta

I think you are entirely corerct. The macro problem with most photo library software is that it's trying to do far too many things and ends up doing none particularly well. A photo library software suite generally enables: 1. Photo storage,

It's not a complete answer to your critique, and I don't have any experience working with stack-ranking, so I'm not sure the following is true. But: it seems like the worst problems of stack ranking might come from not having good people do

I don't really understand why insider trading is illegal in the first place (it makes the market more efficient, and no one is defrauded) but it does seem weird to make it legal only for a certain class of favored people. The right answer,

I understand the point you're making. However, consider: Logically, "you're telling people what they want to hear" has no relationship to the merits of what's being told. What people want to hear might be false, or it might be true. For exa

This is not how bankruptcy works. When you declare bankruptcy, you have to propose a plan for repaying your creditors to the best of your ability, and that has to be approved by a court. You don't just fill out a form and file it at the loc

In what sense is "mere political news" distinct from an "ominous sign" of "today's broken system" that will "indirectly [affect] all of us?" These submissions are getting really tiresome, not least because of the way discussions proceed: th

Yeah, the idea that the U.S. should blow apart its international alliances to apprehend someone whose activities are protected under American law is slightly insane. Then again, the author has a history of such things.

This is like complaining that LA is a bad city to film a movie because I've never seen a camera crew in Rancho Cucamonga. Manhattan != New York City.

Seriously. What a laugh. The author parks himself in a doorman building in one of the most expensive neighborhoods in the city and then declares that you can't get by without paying $2500 a month in rent.

You complain that New York is too expensive, but you were living in a doorman building in the Financial District? Is this some kind of joke? It sounds like you had a bad experience at a shitty job, hung around with total assholes, and then

This article makes the common mistake of confusing Manhattan for New York. It's true: the Upper East Side is a bad place to start a startup. Fort Greene isn't.

Maybe that's a good law in theory. But as soon as such a measure was on the agenda, it would be complicated by the addition of various provisos, exceptions, and limits, each inserted at the behest of a well-heeled interest group with access

I don't know, but it seems more likely to me that the causal relationship runs in the other direction: a society is likely to become more free as the median resident becomes more prosperous.

What? Of course they do. For every dollar borrowed, a dollar is lent. U.S. debt is financed through the sale of Treasury bonds, for example. And for each bond sold there is a real investor on the other end who paid actual money for it.

I'm not so sure about this—the "unpaid debt equals destroyed wealth" part. It's important to be concrete about what we're talking about here. A society's wealth can't be sensibly measured in money, because currency is just a neutral medium
