I’ve been full time remote since 2011 across multiple employers and I’ve always received the exact same benefits as office workers. Sure their might be other problems with remote work but having a separate benefits tier for remote workers i

This essay (and the one it links to) provided tremendous insight to me as a HN reader and should not have been marked dead, even if it’s about PG. None of us are beyond reproach, even the founder of this site/company.

I've had this problem for all of 10.15 too, but using an eGPU with all my monitors connected to it. Simply putting the display in sleep mode is enough for macOS to forget where all my windows are when I return. You don't even need

I’m a big fan of Oblique Strategies, perhaps too big a fan, and I have what is perhaps the most rare edition of them all: the special edition Peter Norton (of Norton Utilities fame) had made as a gift for his friends in 1996. It was never a

I don’t doubt that you’ve had problems but e.g. ‘ifconfig bond0.143’ references an ethernet interface that represents vlan 143 on the bonded interface bond0. This sort of setup has worked for at least a decade on Linux for me, probably lon

Given all the talk here about Kubernetes’ learning curve, does anyone have any resources for learning it for those that haven’t yet? Whether blogs, books, video courses, etc.

One possible explanation could be the desire to have a guaranteed-never-modified bootloader that is rock solid, which allows for firmware updates on the flash (in addition to booting the system in normal use). This is how Apple's iOS d

dang, if you are reading this, can you let us know if there are any plans to fix this long standing mobile UX problem?

It sucks on mobile (Safari on latest iOS), too. The blurry segments don’t become readable until more than half the screen is filled with unreadable blur.

I’ve experienced every single one of these bugs, and some of them have existed for multiple releases, which means they are extremely unlikely to ever be fixed. [0] 0: https://tidbits.com/2019/10/21/six-reasons

I’ve been using both of those tools for years too, but those are OS-wide plugins that do not modify Safari’s behavior- which to me is the very definition of a “browser extension”.

Does the case make direct metal to metal contact with all 3 major heat producing chips on the rpi4? IIRC, the chip related to ethernet gets very, very hot in use and not all metal rpi4 cases actually make contact with it.

Does your rpi4 have proper cooling? Unlike all past rpis, the stock cooling on the rpi4 is easily overwhelmed by even slight load, and it drastically slows down in that situation.

You have literally no idea what might be being communicated in private between China and Blizzard. How can you make such a claim in good faith?

It's definitely not no-win. They can completely exit the Chinese market. The company will still survive if they do so. Earlier in this thread it was pointed out China generates only 10% of their revenue.

This is the biggest thing keeping me from leaving the Mac for Linux, and it hasn’t really improved much in the last 4 years. I don’t think most people care about HighDPI (or whatever you want to call it), particularly Linux devs. But I can’

This is an important question that no one seems to be addressing. Why is Fry’s closing only one store if they’re all hollowed out? One would think it’s because they have some plan to revamp the other stores, but there is no sign of that.
