It's an interesting perspective, but some people deserve to have the weight of the government applied to them, whether or not they think it's just. Fearmongering about the Consumer Financial Protection Agency from a guy whose company was mi

Seems clear based on this self-serving account, in which he paints himself as a harmless engineer whose company's only fault was accepting advertising? I don't think that's clear at all. The government has extraordinary powers of persuasion

Sorry, that wasn't clear to me, partly because I've been using the 4.2 beta and it's hard to remember life without it. iOS 4's omnipresent list of running applications (sorted by most recent use, just like command-Tab on the Mac) is now my

Pandora's had an iOS client going back to when it was called an iPhone client, and credits it with the major uptick in their usage rate. Since the 4.0 OS came out, it streams happily in the background. There have been IM clients since the f

Huh, Chrome works for me too, and that's a fairly new development, like the last month or two. Officially, Netflix streaming in a browser still only supports Firefox, Safari, and IE.

Netflix streaming in consumer devices (game consoles, Tivo, Roku, AppleTV, iOS gear, various televisions and blu-ray players, etc) never depends on a web browser. There's no cursor, no mousing, and no typing except with a ouija-board interf

There's no connection. Live streaming will be driven by wide public availability, e.g., web browsers. It's not going to yoked to a specific piece of Android kit.

Hulu's availability issues are entirely of its own making. The Hulu Plus strategy is explicitly about extending that reach, starting with iOS, Xbox, PS3, and the current-gen TiVo. They're already on TVs, in other words.

Are you aware of any cases where existing TVs gained significant new streaming features after the fact? This sort of integration is an inducement to buy, not an inducement to remain brand-loyal on your next TV purchase.

Nice to see Netflix, Pandora, and "more coming soon from Android Market", but beyond that the pickings feel a bit slim. Is it surprising that Hulu Plus isn't on board? With Netflix and Amazon as part of the package, Google's not averse to a

Pray tell, how does this lower the "barrier to entry"? Are we presuming that terrorists are stone deaf, nearly blind, and incapable of memorizing daily aircraft routes? If so, I agree with you, and further suggest banning iPhone-holders for

One reason Mint left me with a bad taste as a brand was that Shaun Inman had been using the same name for his analytics webapp for at least a year (at haveamint.com). The duplication felt tacky, to say the least.

"Well inside the terminal" comes as a surprise -- in the US, the carriers have traditionally tolerated everyone snapping their phones on within a few seconds of touching down. Which is really just another oddity, now that I think about it.

I'd like to know what drove the relatively recent policy shift around demanding that phones and other devices be "completely off" at takeoff and landing, with airplane mode deemed insufficient. From a visual survey of people turning their p

That's not a compelling explanation, considering that you're free to keep your head in a John Grisham potboiler (as long as it's not a Kindle edition), or remain fully asleep at takeoff and/or landing.

Incidentally, the limit of 3200 tweets via the API is the same as the 160-page limit on the website. 20 tweets per page * 159 additional pages = 3180.

The existence of post-paid services seems to have no direct bearing on whether pre-paid services, like Zipcar, should feel entitled to rapidly go ape on your credit rating when the funding source disappears.

"Divisive"? You think Gruber's sowing discord among the Android faithful? I think he's highlighting a lawsuit that exposes some hypocrisy in Google's public branding, branding which some people have taken a wee bit too close to heart.

That's not how legislation works. I don't understand why this wound up in the ACA, but it seems plainly peripheral, and anyone voting against the ACA on the basis of this legislative oddity would have earned far more wrath than they're gett

You're right: voiding other people's contracts because they (collectively) negotiated better deals than you did doesn't seem fair at all. Arnold knows exactly how to push your buttons.

That you can read a thread like this and describe the sleep LED behavior as "frivolity" nicely encapsulates not only why Apple does well, but why a certain segment of its competition will never grasp why it keeps getting beaten.

You're missing the point. The genius of the iPod, and the reason it neatly destroyed all of its competitors for years, was that it offloaded complexity, like adding music and editing metadata, to a general-purpose computer. The only things
