Fair enough. The Magic Mouse hardware supports a three-finger click, and any of the various inexpensive third-party packages like jitouch et al make the Magic Mouse a viable input device.

For Apple to commit to anything in advance, let alone Windows support for a brand-new peripheral, would be evidence of takeover by pod people, and thus not nice at all. Windows support for the original iPod arrived two years later.

Internationally Apple works with dozens of carriers, frequently more than one in a territory. This is still the company whose CEO referred to carriers as "orifices" not so long ago. They're going to keep putting a brave face on the AT&T

Suggesting that Apple silently correlates and feeds back iPhone GPS data to Skyhook's access point database is speculative, at best. Occam's razor says Skyhook is using off-the-shelf hardware to identify access points at a distance, especia

I enjoyed Daniel Kahneman on "The riddle of experience vs memory", which is about the ways people structure their lives for experiences they think they will enjoy remembering, rather than things they'd necessarily enjoy doing at the time. T

Cool project, but why saddle it with a search engine penalty for a name? It's like "Mail" redux.

Can you provide a wee scintilla of evidence that the constituency upset about Apple's position on Flash overlaps meaningfully with Apple's "core user base", either for the Mac or the iPhone? I would very much like to see it, and I don't.

I'd have thought there was a bright line between people like my parents who use the ubiquitous "share this link" site features, and people like me who send messages with links and excerpts tailored to the recipient. If I'm right, you're an

Wisdom and self-assurance matter less than the ability to conceive of a world where this kind of a response is possible. As widely-circulated an article as this was creates people capable of pulling it off.

With the first iPad model still at 256 MB RAM, and no sign of GC in the iPhone OS 4 preview, memory management will be with the platform for a long time. I think we'll see multi-core first.

Fair enough -- iPhone sales are up despite it being an inopportune time to buy an iPhone. This doesn't exactly refute my point.

It's not remotely the same. All iPhones made to date run the current OS, and are prompted to upgrade to it when users activate their phones or sync their music libraries or back up. Android's OS is upgraded by the carrier; most carriers are

You're comparing Android sales to iPhone sales in the iPhone's worst buying season, though. Expect the iPhone numbers to blow up when it's been one month instead of ten since the last hardware refresh.

To be pedantic, "Objective-C 2.0" features are things the iPhone always had, like properties and fast enumeration, and/or had first, like the modern runtime (which solves the fragile base class problem, and which Mac apps still only get if

Your friends in Japan had never seen an iPod in 2005? Apple claimed the iPod had 60 percent of Japanese market share as early as November of that year. http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2005/nov/16japan.html It kept the lead until September

Minimum standards of personal responsibility don't protect you from your customers, they protect your customers from you. Customers are not in a good position (to say the least) to evaluate whether a software shop is competent.
