Wow ... this is messed up. I'm counting my iPods and iPads and Macs, and I think I'm going to go over their limit. When I paid money for my apps and content, I assumed I wasn't going to have to deal with this crap. This is the real differen

I think mariusmg is making a point. The text above is written as if the person solely did the work. In my opinion it would have been better to write it as "part of numerous teams, including ones that developed X, Y and Z."

Good karma! Back in the days of pay phones, I had a friend who'd put quarters in the return slot. While it is a very small gesture, it moved me. Felt like sharing this.

DTNs (delay tolerant networks) have been studied to death in academia sigh . I'm a bit jaded by this line of work. People keep talking about how useful this would be in the case of disasters. How the heck will we recharge all our batteries

You make a good point. The way I see it, markets for commodity goods have become more efficient. Due to patents, copyright and such, a lot of modern goods simply can't be traded legally. The producers/distributors of these goods are the new

I'm sure some folks are getting lots of yucks from the name. Can you imagine being in a corporate IT job and trying to justify to management that the next project should be built on their platform?

FYI ... these folks were at this year's TechCrunch Disrupt in NYC. There are a number of complications with the model including insurance, traffic tickets, etc. These guys impressed me quite a bit as they seemed to have these issues covered

Some people seem to be very excited by this. You don't have to wait until October. Andrew Ng's course on Machine Learning@Stanford is available for free on iTunes University (it also seems to be on YouTube). Do note that ML is a subset of

I'm curious if you have run into out-of-memory errors? It has happened to me 2-3 times and I don't think I stressed it that much.

I've been using a Chromebook (Samsung) for the past few days. I keep it next to the iPads in the living room and have been experimenting to see which one I go to the most for basic browsing tasks. I don't have a strong opinion either way as

I don't know about any living spaces. I am aware of a hacker space (Brooklyn Resistor), community art space (3rd Ward), and some shared office spaces full of tech entrepreneurs (BetaWorks and General Assembly). Hope this helps.

Pretty motivational stuff! Props!! 1) As an aside, he says his job was Private Equity Investor. Does that mean we worked for a hedge fund? 2) How does one get hired as a PEI right out of college? I'm just curious what skill set is required.

This is a very positive development. Not the same as stapling a Green Card to your PhD diploma, but certainly a step in the right direction. CS people keep getting the shaft when it comes to govt definitions of occupation. For instance, the

Interesting read. However, the article doesn't fully consider the costs of the alternative decision. One of the things I really hated about COM programming was BSTRs (prefix the length of the string in memory BEFORE the actual pointer). Gra

NYC is different than the Bay area with respect to moonlighting/IP-ownership issues when you have a full-time job and you do projects. Did you clear this with your employer, were you in a contract that didn't have restrictions, did you hope

I don't see how this will work in 3 years time. Cheap robots today (<100K) suck at manual dexterity tasks. It took quite a lot of work to get a PR2 to fold laundry (and some of the best robotics people in the world worked on this). The

It also seems like you had a working demo at that point. How far along was the prototype? Was it a mostly working v1? Or a few iterations worth of work. Thanks for the article! Quite informative.
