Fantastic read! I disagree with the point that Mario 64 was not fun though. The novelty of the 3D platformer experience combined with the open world concept made that game something truly amazing. I've always dreamed of working with experts

Bockris ... I think I managed to get in too. Got a receipt from Google checkout. Did you get any other confirmation email from them? I have a fear that my credit-card payment didn't go through.

One of the coolest sci-fi ideas related to the scale is that of a Dyson Sphere (a megastructure that surronds a star to collect it's energy). I recall personally encountering the idea for the first time in a Star Trek episode. The wikipedia

I did think about that but the messages that you leave someone are likely going to be different, and hence you need different codes.

Glympse looks pretty sweet. Thanks for the pointer. The point of this tool is to be extremely simple (no accounts or login). Continuous tracking is often useful but it kills batteries and raises some additional privacy concerns.

I'm just using the location given by the browser (it might be IP-based, wifi-based, GPS-based etc). I am surprised how inaccurate it is sometimes on my desktop. Thankfully, I get relatively accurate location most of the time on my phone.

Valid point. Right now, my GF and I are texting these codes to each other ... this wasn't something I imagined. Accessing the net while talking is another issue you rightly bring up.

Sorry about the bug with the single quotes. Will fix this the next time I get a chance to update the code on my server.

Thanks for the feedback so far. I'm often in a situation where I need to tell someone where I am in a strange location (moved to a new city - coordinating with friends). This involves finding a street sign (which aren't always visible). Geo

I wanted nearcode ... but someone already had that. Plus the idea of the noun "near-code" seemed to confuse people. I'll keep it up on the URL since it doesn't cost me much to run this thing.

I must be really sleepy. I clicked on the article thinking ... 20 million "dollar businesses" ... wtf? Parse Error. Need more caffeine.

I also got the invalid request error. I just watched the Honeycomb event, and am boggled that Google can't be bothered to hire decent graphic designers. The icons and general feeling on Android looks unpolished compared to my iOS devices. T

I had to reread the original Google article to verify a point. The signal Bing is alleged to be using is that users CLICKED on the result that came up ... not the results that just came up first in Google upon a search query. And these are

Yes. Why? Fundamental economics. Money is essentially free. People need to invest somewhere. The stock market is already over-valued. Gold and other commodities seem to be overvalued as well. It doesn't seem like the US will raise interest

Random thoughts from my experience: 1) Doing a fifth year Masters at the same University is a waste. It is better to go to a different school. You get to meet new people, get exposed to different perspectives, and perhaps even live in a dif

I saw these guys at TC disrupt last year. I really don't get it. I had a bigger "woah" moment when I saw Flipboard (and I've hardly used that after the initial playing-around phase). Is there great value here that I just can't see?

I didn't quite get the 6 minute time limit. For instance, I coded up one of their problems using a bruteforce algorithm. It worked perfectly with the sample test case they provided. But when I tried it on the their time-limited test case, l

Yeah ... they had major issues. First off, the submit system was flaky (didn't work with common browser configs ... e.g. on my macbook pro with Safari). They had a 6 minute time limit, which caused a lot of problems. By the time someone rea
