It’s not really that odd. Your body releases dopamine in response to cold-shock or exercise, presumably to help you perform under moderate stress.

As a college student with no idea what I was doing, I tried to stir-fry everything at maximum heat and would quickly burn food to a regular pan. After I learned to be a halfway competent cook, I discovered most cooking methods don't st

They have started designing their garments and sleeping bags to be more easily repairable. Especially around the zipper. It isn’t perfect but they seem to take it more seriously than any other company on the planet.

He suggests through practice. You start with something small but easy that you don't want to do, and make a habit of doing it anyway. His favorite small first step seems to be getting up early.

They are so big and complex they have paradoxically lost advantages of scale. Allegedly, if you build two of the same nuke, it’s actually more expensive to build the second one because you have to do a whole bunch of change orders to adapt

It's a chicken-and-egg problem. As a toy example, to become a world-class athlete in some sport tends to require you start around kindergarten. Naturally then, you cannot wait until you are twenty-five to become wise & discover you

More broadly I point to the disappearing stay at home parent. It turns out young kids need to be in bed between 7:30-8:00 for enough sleep. Good luck cooking from scratch when neither parent is home before 6:00. (Ask me how I know)

With a dry dock, paint, and enough labor that doesn’t have to be a huge problem. Just look at Navy salvage operations returning sunken ships to service.

I’d be inclined to think controls, audits, and reviews prevent most of the casual fraud, even if some fraud still happens. Sort of like door locks. They don’t eliminate all theft. But they greatly reduce casual theft.

A large purchase- but perhaps just small enough you can agree with yourself to let go of worry. Perpetual anxiety about theft is no way to live.

There’s more to it, elderly who can’t drive wind up stranded & isolated which is a problem in itself. If we look the other way when they slowly become unfit to drive, we aren’t forced to solve those other problems.
