Rust actually has this, this works: fn main() { let x = 5i32; let y: i64 = x.into(); println!("{}", y); } this doesn't work: fn main() { let x = 5i32; let y: i16 = x.

That's true in the general sense, but low interest rates lead to higher inflation AND better stock market performance. So having lower interest rates benefits people with stock market portfolios and hurts people who have mostly cash.

No, because if you explicitly converted to another type, that's what you wanted.

That just seems like it makes it easier! You predict a recession, you're wrong, but you end up being right anyway!

Inflation causes the value of your investments to increase, so it hurts the people who rely on cash more than people with stock portfolios

Yes, but the GUI doesn't work because it complains that you have to be root to do that. You wonder why they didn't give you a password prompt for root and just decided not to change your wifi settings. You go back to using ifconfi

Windows 7 actually pages once you use HALF of your RAM. That's crazy. It's starting to page after I use only 8 GB! 8 GB is free and it's paging!

If they earn less than minimum wage, the restaurant has to actually compensate them up to the minimum wage. They only earn a lower nominal wage because it's expected they get more from tips.

Yes, I've noticed that as well. That's why there was even a suggestion to remove `mut` - because the compiler can figure out which things should be `mut` and which shouldn't. Functional programmers had a meltdown, but I wonde

Yesod doesn't prevent all of them. You can use "javascript:" to still do XSS, last time I checked. This is because that kind of content is valid in HTML... but maybe not what you wanted to happen

You can write a safe framework in Rust, or you could just have everything as Strings. Just because it's in Rust, doesn't mean you get safety from a lot of error conditions.

Yes, you'd have to wrap it in a match. But maybe you don't have to. If T1 is the normal case, then there's a type in Rust called Result that handles this kind of pattern. fn potentially_failing(thing: Result<Type1, T

In Rust, you'd define an `enum` of two types. enum Either { Type1(T1), Type2(T2), } let's say you get a value of type Either then you can match on them: match value { Type1(v) => func(

You should only keep track of the baccarat winnings/losses. If he won $9.6M in baccarat and lost $500k in craps, they should still ask for $9.6M, not $9.1M. That said, they agreed to the rules, they should eat the loss anyway. The gove
