That doesn't seem like a particularly strong example, especially considering the phrase you chose isn't concise. "H N Time Sink". "I forgot to feed my kids because Warcraft." "My server melted because Slas

How are prototypes brilliant? I'm not familiar with them outside of JavaScript. Maybe you could provide some examples?

It's not stupid at all. I've been using three language learning apps and they all have streak features. That feature is helping me maintain a level of commitment far greater than I ever would have done if I said "well I'

But why is it on Hacker News? And why did the submitter use the term Pinay? People barely know how to spell Filipino, so I don't expect them to know Pinay either. "Filipino visitor something something..."

TNT stands for the Filipino phrase "tago nang tago" which means "always hiding", describing an undocumented immigrant. Hoy, TNT ka? Hey, are you an undocumented immigrant? It's slang.

I think you're misconstruing the linked article. Answer the following. In a generation raised to believe that "how I feel" is the metric to be optimized, who will do work that does not provide "a positive amount of feels

Yes and no, depending on your metric. If you look at it from the "hobbyist does cool hobby thing, gets a lot of upvotes" then yes. But if you look at it from the "minority does X cool thing" then the answer is no. I thin

Sure, you don't "have to" but you most likely do. To understand something implies some grasp of scope and size. And if you're continually working on toy problems, you'll never encounter problems of the appropriate s

There's no way this is possible unless you are selecting different shades of the same category of answer. The overall framework of MBTI is largely binary. To produce different results, all you have to do is choose the complete opposite

I get what you're saying but taken literally, this would imply that there are multiple, equally high-paying jobs, when in reality there's probably only ever one, which has a constant value of hate. What we need is a normalized val

I'm curious what you mean when you say "official policy". Did you mean, that's how the machine works, people will always find/create loopholes. Or did you mean there is a technical provision somewhere that somehow m

They are just fun code names. Nominally textual rather than nominally numeric. I think they're all supposed to be desserts. Akin to how all releases of OSX have cat names. Until the last one. Combo breaker!

Usually people who attain technical knowledge are the same type to avoid politics. Politics is a "soft" game of imperfections, where as technical knowledge is the opposite. Cold, hard, objective. What incentive is there for techni

I don't think reasoning about types is a matter of intelligence. I happen to share your experience. It is more of a cognitive burden, exacerbated by less diligent coworkers. No amount of "convention within dynamism" can compe

With a static language, you get more with less. If you didn't have any testing framework, the compiler would tell you where you messed up. So, there's that, barring "well you should have had testing code to begin with".

I think the code has a generator framework, so the fact that they are alphabetical may just be convenient/arbitrary; the code could be generated to run in any order (I think).

I'm sure if law enforcement doesn't like your innocent looking messages they can just keep demanding that you give them the real key. How easy is it to produce a stream of messages that is fake but looks real?

I think that people view art as a side effect of abundance. It is something that naturally arises given a surplus of some thing. The point of contention here is that someone of that level of intellect has "wasted" their talent on
