For as complex as it is, TYPO3 is pretty usable. I built a site on TYPO3 before I ever messed with WordPress some 6 years ago. Now that I think of it, I'd probably opt for TYPO3 before Drupal.

I don't think you know how large ecommerce websites work. Pricing, availability, listing pages are all generated dynamically. "Static web content" doesn't even get close to describing how an ecom page gets served with that many variables. Y
