I suspect that much of the contention around this famous problem is based on the original boundaries / rules of the problem being unclear. The problem as stated sometimes leaves out crucial information that affects the outcome. Example

The rules of the problem aren't explained very well. most of the contention probably is based on unclear boundaries of the game.

I learned to code. Listened to all the advice of hackers who said it was the most important thing ever, and they'd never work with you on startups unless you coded as well. Well I learned. I worked as a software dev for 1 year as well.

Yep, they're targeting tutors. They contacted me (SAT Tutor) and got me to signup. I haven't completed the registration yet as they want me to schedule a phone interview with them and I don't see how it can help me yet.

It's situations like Matt's that I find myself wishing I studied CompSci in undergrad, if simply for the connections to other hackers. Goodluck Matt. Let's grab coffee sometime.

Schopenhauer said it 200 years before Orwell did, a fact I discovered only this week. I recommend Schopenhauer's essay if you liked this one. Read essays 1-3 http://ebooks.adelaide.edu.au/s/schopenhauer/arthu

Hey HN, slightly off-topic question: is it possible to have a "login to our website with HN" capability? similar to facebook and twitter connect.

No worries! I block spam accounts too, haha. I saw an account that had tweets that sounded a bit off. After reading them carefully, I realized they were most likely fake 'real' tweets. Incredible what the spammers are doing these days.

Boston is an underrated startup scene. I've only been getting involved recently and it's amazing how many quality tech businesses don't make it to HN, especially ones out of MIT or ones started by older professionals (often with phds, etc)
