So you run on ARM just to do x86 emulation? How does it work?

I'm assuming the former, but I could be wrong.

I'm sorry but the implementation of the speculative execution or the branch predictors was not available at all. Could you tell for example that AMD wasn't vulnerable to meltdown but Intel was by looking at any docs? Not really.

I really don't think that the speculative execution _implementation_ was in any spec whatsoever. The fact that it did the protection domain check later in the process was not documented by Intel at all for example. Having said that, th

I think I didn't explain myself. What you say is true, but even if your program doesn't see any input, you can (the kernel n_tty line discipline) edit the input (delete it). So if I do print() read() print() read() the reads will

Thanks, it makes sense now. So with every `read' to the tty it starts a new edit buffer, I pressume?

One thing that I don't rn see is why when I have: printf(">"); read(0, ...); I can only delete (DEL) chars that I've written, but not the ">". Who takes care of that, given that is not using rea

Yep, I was complaining a bit of the move to systemd. To run a binary (that acts as a daemon in the end) with no especial handling needed by the OS and nothing fancy (just run at runlevel 3, I don't even need a "clean" shutdow

Well, to start a init.d service you only really need an executable and a few links to rc.X. Nothing more. I know about the lsb stuff and that but only gives a few warnings if you omit it. Still works as expected out of the box. For example,

So, obviously systemd has also taken over crontab? My god ... Really this is sick. I've to fight systemd to do some dead simple init.d custom services and it was awful. Even the process resource limits had to be setup in the sytemd con

When you do `smthin | less' the other bazilion options are loaded in less, using resources. If you want to have a quick look a the help you can get overwhelmed by all the information. Having so many options in less can be seen as over-

One could say that if a pager needs +1k lines of help, something is wrong. Complexity is usually not good. And never free.

Yes ... I think that should not be allowed (bring down the machine by a non-root user process). In Linux CPU_GROUPS/MEM_GROUPS can help, and the fair scheduler has improved the situation a bit from the old days where a fork bomb will b
