My first job at Microsoft was to make a system that could catalog the “contracts” or “extension points” installed in Windows. I’d define a category of extensions, such as a COM object registration and my program used normalized levenshtein

Very interesting idea. It’s been ages since I took chemistry but I’m not sure what to break down. Glucose is C6H12O6. If we imagined nanobots that could break this down in any way (disregarding latent energy) the most obvious compounds are

This is huge, though I have practical concerns. With two five hour batteries, how critical will degradation be? Are these custom batteries that become the new insulin? How does this conflate with respiratory failure, which usually leads to

Yes, I forget how much of this was because of forgeability and how much was because of the ambiguity of digital rights in America. Compelling someone to share a passcode was considered a 5th amendment violation but we collect biological sam

I think this is a great idea as someone who should probably have called a few times. Silly Q though: Are all numbers starting with 9 reserved or will we need some people to give up their numbers?

Under what moral code or axioms?? From what I can assume, your difference is on whether they’d harm others. I’ll assume your creed is libertarian, though there are multiple essays where respected libertarian philosophers have argued that li

I like Go’s strategy. Consts have no type and are the only thing with implicit conversion. math.Pi is defined explicitly with a whole lot of digits and the type system can somehow do inline math on all those digits with full precision befor

Mathematically speaking, Pi can’t be “simplified”, but I’m personally curious what ratio is Pi to the highest precision necessary to calculate anything tangible (the circumference of the universe to the Plank length). Practically speaking o

I created a directory with alt+255. It was an unprintable character and showed up last in any dir listing. At most it added an extra new line. That’s how I was one of the only students whose apps didn’t get caught during auditing.

Last I checked CA law (an ethics class), a computer permission setting explicitly does not grant actual permission to use a computer. Given that the TOS explicitly prohibits the use of the API for selling info to recruiters, it may be const

Who else would sue? The EPA, which is currently headed by a self-professed climate change denier? I would be surprised if the NY AG didn’t run for president some day. They clearly seem intent on finding creative ways to do others’ jobs. E.g

I think the point is that they use an in-house generic, priced at their normal revenue, to get a 180d monopoly and establish a second brand. This is all on top of their existing monopoly from the original patent.

I think they’re using an interesting legal strategy here. They can use shareholder fraud to have legal standing to pull them into court, but the case prema facie rests on the acceptance of climate change.
