It's worth noting that The Hoover Institution is a conservative think-tank. The article is written with an obvious slant. I am doubtful that describing the decision to repay the loan with higher taxes on business can be accurately des

Interesting, but if I'm understanding this correctly, this can only do straight remaps. I'll stick with Karabiner Elements for its ability to make a key do one thing when tapped (e.g., send a keystroke like ESC) and a different t

It's interesting you should say that, because I was up and running on an alternative platform pretty quick. RSS was and is so core to how I gather and consume information from the web that I'd be considerably unhappier without it

FYI, this is from 2012, although I would be interested in a similar analysis done today. At a guess, name-brand third-party chargers (Anker, Belkin, etc) are probably more than "good enough" at this point, but it would be neat to

I like The Old Reader: https://theoldreader.com/ It's largely a reimplementation of the Google Reader experience.

Yes. Once it clicked it was so engrossing I found I could think of nothing else. Focusing on work was difficult. Dwarf Therapist became indispensable. I knew all of my dwarfs by name, and I had a plan for all of them. My focus became a

I've never really understood why smearing the leap second is such a big deal. Surely if you have software that is going to be sensitive to small variation in the clock over 24h, you're already not using wall time.

This doesn't explain why anyone should care about whether she does or doesn't have a Goodreads account. I guess I'm still struggling with a question of "so what?"

This is pedantically correct, but in practical terms, if you got RSUs at any price in the last five years, they're still worth less than you were offered.

I set up Home Assistant for my parents after their Insteon system turned into a brick. It did a great job of controlling everything, but it seems to think there's an extra sunset at 4:17PM every day which has made scheduling a challen

If starting a service has dependencies, not explicitly spelling out those dependencies and relying on the init system is akin to relying on unspecified behaviour. So among other things, don't be surprised if that's unreliable. &g
