Where are the old programmers? But they never existed in the first place! The programmer population doubles every 5 years (approximately). So even discounting the age pyramid (dead people, or career changes), there are only 0.20% of 60-64

Yes, the earlier you learn it, the more benefit you’ll get from learning it. Now of course, you will get probalbly more jobs knowing python than knowing lisp. But you will have more fun programming in lisp, and you will learn more learning

Well, if the code base is awful, it won’t have test to begin with... what do you test when you only have the bad code, no doc, no specs...

Using national language in code bases is indeed bad, if you want tomhave them sold to foreign companies or contributed to by the international community. On the other hand, it may be good if you want to avoid this. I guess, not a lot of th

Obviously. For 70 years now, the number of programmers has been doubling every 5 years. In consequence, on averge, half the programmers have less than 5 years of experience. Therefore almost all the code will be produced in a awful way, us

I agree that unfamiliarity should not awful a code base make. However, there are degrees, and probably thresholds. If your code to manage web site users is using string theory, despite the assumedly concise, elegant and refined code, it wou

Do you mean more or less than 1M LOC? grep is usable on very large code bases, because after the first scan, all the sources are loaded in the file system cache, so the successive grep are done in RAM and are very fast. So much so that I al
