Most of the comments in that thread were quite positive. This certainly doesn’t support your point.

I think you missed some words in my post: “in the U.S.,” “revenue,” “apps.”

I wonder what the fact-checkers would say about Pichai’s claims that the ad prices fell by 40% because of more competition... Cook says that the developers have so many other choices like Android, PlayStation, or Windows. This is about the

Definitely sounds like synesthesia.

This pretty much agrees with what I experience. For me bass is always darker, drums have kind of a sandy texture, instruments are separate and also moving. Another one is that louder means bigger. It adds new dimensions to music and it ca

I think synesthesia wouldn’t help much with these examples. Some common types of synesthesia, like graphemes->color or chromesthesia (music in colors) would’ve been completely useless throughout 99% of human history.

Cool that someone else has it! It’s much less common than just sound to color. We should compare notes. A couple questions to see if our experiences match: How would you describe the texture of drums? What brightness is bass? Are instrument

I get music to shape, texture, color, location synesthesia when I smoke pot (just a very small amount is enough) so I have a good idea of what it’s like to have it and not have it. It’s amazing but also I’m happy I don’t have it all the tim

There is a solution for websites. Band together and ban Googlebot at the same time. Post a message that the site will now only be searchable on, let’s say, Bing. Google would cave in. Of course it’s a collective action problem with a short-

I don’t know the reason for it but when I experience audio -> visual synesthesia, the lower sounds are invariably darker than higher sounds.

I think it fits! I’d agree with you before I had my first-hand experiences but now I think it’s really marvelous.

One example of low-grade synesthesia that many people have is when you ask them what shade is deep, distant rumble of thunder (without seeing the lightning strike). Almost everyone will say that it’s dark despite the association with very b

It’s not like the Hololens but I can still tell you the shape, color, distance, location, texture. Since I can basically switch it on and off, I can tell you that the normal experience of music doesn’t come close (and I always loved music).

It’s still synesthesia. It’s really, really cool, and I wish more people could experience it (I wrote about it earlier here https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=15440878 ).

Even in the small towns all of these existed (at least in the 80s) and it seemed safe. But still, it didn’t compare to Western Europe's standard of living at all.

It's not a new problem by any means - UPS trucks avoid left turns thanks to their navigation algorithm for more than a decade and they were trying to do it since the 1970s.
