I usually find it easier to start with a project I want to build, and then learn whatever it takes to make it happen. There's so much to learn that it really is a personal preference.

Would you mind commenting on my website, Curious Reef, which is aiming to help people learn new things? I would love to hear if you think it's a solution to that problem. http://curiousreef.com/

Is the solution better software or smarter managers? I mean, you know that enterprise software sucks, but do the people who pay for it know that it sucks? How would you tackle that problem?

What kind of tech news? XBox games? OSS? VC funding announcements? Right now, what would the top 5 headlines be on your ideal news site? I disagree with linkfrek that the ship has sailed. Online communities will always exist and evolve.

I think you're asking the right question, but I don't have any idea of what the answer is. It doesn't seem like answering that question is something you can crowdsource to us. You need a vision of what you think a great news site will loo

It seems like a cool idea. I remember when I was in high school applying for scholarships, there was a scholarship website that had something similar. I had to browse around their website looking for coins or something like that. When I

If your email has something interesting to say, then absolutely it's still worthwhile. It seems to be a growing area, at least from my perspective. It probably depends on the product, but most likely you'll get some value out of an email

I'm pretty sure that all of those (plus mint.com, which started as mymint.com) had VC backing to help pay for the domain. If you want to go with that kind of domain name, it seems like getting VC is going to be a requirement.

I also got the same reaction here in the midwest. Although people would be supportive, there was frequently a tone of sympathy as well. It was surprising to see how people reacted, especially those who are more indoctrinated into the corp

My theory about alt text showing as correlated to higher ranking is that it's a result of people optimizing their pages. SEOs have been saying to add alt text for a while, and it's easy to do compared to changing URLs or a domain name. I

I really liked the article, and I think the Maximum Viable Product is a great concept. From reading some people's descriptions of MVP it seems like they expect their users to tell them exactly what to do. However, comparing user feedback

I've been slowly getting better with my bash skills by organizing it as a class on my learning website: http://curiousreef.com/class/bash-scripting/ It's useful because it helps me stay on track. I can take off a few days or weeks even an

I agree you should launch sooner rather than later. Also, not to be rude, but if you do start a blog, you may want to have someone proofread your posts. A lot of typos like you have here won't instill confidence in your users.
