Yeah, it would be cool if they could calculate the "expected minutes late" for every carrier, broken down by route.

I wish I had read this, or something similar, when I learned how to solder. I initially was doing "cold soldering" by just melting the solder and using it like glue. Soldering became much easier once I learned the right way.

Yeah, I was trying to figure out the sale price too. They have monthly plans that range from $50/month to $350/month. If we assume that they have 100 people on the $200/month plan, that's $240,000/year in revenue. So $500k could be reaso

Yeah, I think you've got great stuff. I started just by reading the transcripts of the interviews, but I now try to set aside time to watch the full videos. Keep it up!

I thought the name was a take-off on "plagiarize". I was expecting it to be a system where you enter a student's homework and it would do a search and tell you if it was plagiarized. Sorry, I didn't actually try the service, but I just tho

Isn't that what SPF is designed to protect? They'll never get through if you have a strict SPF record that lists AuthSMTP as the only email server for your domain.

Have a lawyer (in IP/contract/employment law) look at the document and your situation before you quit your job. It'll probably only take him a few minutes to review it. A couple hundred bucks and you'll know for sure. I had this exact sam

I'm not there yet at all, pretty much in the same boat as you, so take this with a grain of salt. I have heard that in addition to all of the great technical tips about color/fonts, etc, the goal of an amazing design is to make it look dif

I poked around for a bit. I guess I wasn't sure if you have a database of song lyrics, or if I need to type in the lyrics or something. The "try it" demo didn't really explain how it works.

That's a grahamism also ( http://www.paulgraham.com/wealth.html#f9n ): "This is a good plan for life in general. If you have two choices, choose the harder. If you're trying to decide whether to go out running or sit home and watch TV, go r

No, not anything in particular. It's mostly natural because if I spend too much time in the "just work hard" extreme I get burned out eventually. I'm also too antsy to spend a lot of time in the learning extreme because I like to see conc

I tend to alternate between two extremes. One extreme is "get shit done anyway you know how ASAP!" The other is "learn, explore, take your time, and do things right." I let my own ambitions determine which zone I'm in, and they last from

Yeah, it's kind of an experiment. I think some social interaction and accountability can help a lot with self-guided learning. We'll see though.

That's a really good idea. Social grading would be useful in that case. There's no support for that right now, but it could be added in the future. There is a way to comment on individual homework assignments, so that could make due for

Is the snow at the top of the page supposed to fall? By dynamic is it an animated gif, or just dynamic on reload? I kept waiting for the snow to fall.

IMHO I hate their interface. That flashy Ajax is too overwhelming. Your plain list is easier for me to read. Have you tried doing user testing with your two pages and then also test how users interact with your competitor?

I think I'm in the minority, but I will fully support IE6 until it's less than about 5% of traffic to a website I'm working on. Once you know IE6's quirks, it's not that hard to work around them. I think the benefit of an additional 10% o

GTD suggests using anything that can manage lots of lists quickly. I'm currently using a Nokia N800 for managing my lists, and it works well. There's a basic To Do app that's easy to use. I'm upgrading to an N900 once it ships. I had tr

To limit the effect of one-liners, you can try making the maximum karma a comment can have be a function of the number of words in the comment. A simple linear relationship would mean that a one-word comment ("No") could never have a karma
