Isn't this pretty much standard in this day and age? HP for example also has this option in BIOS for their laptops (but you still can either download the BIOS blob manually in Linux or use the automatic updater in Windows if you want).

You are right, the snap versions mostly work fine. It's just that there are a lot of annoyances due to the nature of Snap packages (slowness, increased disk space requirements, problematic integration with the rest of the system...),

He's not wrong though, the amount of Snap stuff you have to remove in a fresh install is starting to get a bit annoying (I usually remove at least the Snap versions of Firefox and Thunderbird and replace them with binaries from Mozilla

Interestingly, I believe this manoeuvre (move over to make room for cars entering the highway) is banned in Germany, because it can cause accidents as the cars from the slower right lanes suddenly move to the left lanes.

I tried all three, multiple times, and it depends. Using the last workload tested as an example, mimalloc just consumed memory like crazy. It was probably leaking, as it was the stock version that comes in Debian, so probably quite old. Tcm

You really need to benchmark your workloads, ideally with the "big 3" (jemalloc, tcmalloc, mimalloc). They all have their strengths and weaknesses. Jemalloc can usually keep the smallest memory footprint, followed by tcmalloc. Mim
