Wow. This all seems very micro-manager-y. Now I'm curious how Twitter will respond: some open souce developers are working on integrating Twitter posts to buddycloud. That means Tweets will be displayed in a buddycloud channel. How exactly

They have definitely captured mindshare and championed the need for federated systems. I've not tried Diaspora though so can't comment.

Excellent idea about the screenshot. I've added it to my todo list. I'd love someone to test this https://buddycloud.org/wiki/Buddycloud_nginx_setup and provide feedback about what else is needed to get bc running on nginx. And also about

Anyone remember “Go to AOL Keyword: Coke”? I try to avoid blowing the buddycloud trumpet (we're building an open federated/distributed social network) on hn each time there is a future-of-twitter post. Sorry - I can't hold back this time. H

You should check some of the MVNO providers in Germany. These mobile operators compete on price and anything that smells like custom development of a blah-portal-blah is cut. There was a time when ISPs used to think the could do value-add c

So I'll step up and blow my team's trumpet. It's the end of a long weekend hackathon on buddycloud. It's also great to see the rumblings of what could be next. Where we stand: The server and webclient are mostly done. We're now working on d

I helped organise the last Munich HN meetup and we ran it from Cafe Ringlnatz's backroom. About 15 people showed up and it was a great evening. I'm definitely keen to attend or help organise another.

I think that for opensouce projects to have traction, reinventing a closed system isn't going to win over more than 1% of potential users. A federated social network also changes many of the social networking paridyms - like how you trust o

Has anyone done any research to find a difference between "desktop" drives and "enterprise/pro" drives? I'm inclined to believe it's marketing speak and targeted at the same people that buy electron-aligned speaker cable.
