That's close to how I arrived at the number - I used programmer wages. Reading about best practices around password storage and implementing it is fairly quick and easy, so a fine of that size will still be sufficient incentive.

There is also no real benefit to storing passwords in plaintext so I don't think your fear is realistic at all. If you are going to fine this at all, then 10k-100k would be an appropriate amount.

Well think of it this way, why should gpu manufacturers only build for the lowest common denominator? If someone wants a 600W chip shouldn't they be able to get one? On the other hand, game studios can obviously not design their games

Quite interesting but it always makes me a bit suspicious when someone finds such a simple solution. If it's that easy wouldn't someone have realized already?

The reason they take the money is because they need the money. The reason they need the money is because they need so many employees. The reason they need so many employees is because it takes so much work to implement a modern web browser.

Historically, electrical and magnetic fields were discovered first. Then em-waves. Then photons. This should tell us that fields are useful in their own right, without referencing particles.

A function that takes a point in space as input. The output can be various things, e.g. a scalar field gives a (possibly complex) number as output.

It's worth keeping in mind that we don't yet have the sought-after Theory of Everything. We have a bunch of theories that mostly work in their domain of validity. These field theories are supposedly very accurate we don't act

I admire these old protocols that are intentionally built to be usable both by machines and humans. Like the combination of a response code, and a human readable explanation. A help command right in the protocol. Makes me think it's a

I'm honestly surprised at the 100k figure. In my mind it should be possible go far lower. 10k sounds vaguely realistic.

What I'm noticing is that this attack, or series of attacks seems to upset people in a way they struggle to verbalize. They try to reach and call it terrorism or war crime but it seems to be neither. Maybe the real explanation is that

I think we can find and should seek out easy wins. That is we should identify the major sources of microplastics and eliminate them. From my personal observation it seems the major issue could be textiles made from plastic. Clothes and carp

One curious omission in the article was statistics about drug use. Do less people use drugs or do they still use it in the same numbers without dying?

My thinking is that if you only meet someone in one particular context say cycling, then you are cycling-buddies. Or work, they are just colleagues. But if you start meeting them in a separate context as well that's how they can become
