I've had the opposite experience: the many different Homejoy cleaners I got were all very good or excellent. Perhaps that is because I live in the south of Chicago, where there are many people desperate for a decent job.

This is exactly the approach Elm takes. The recommended way to structure the application is so that the view is a pure function of the Model (application state). Moreover, the change to application state is also pure: there is a pure functi

To expound on Retric's comment (I expounded much more in a cousin thread): I also first assumed that what you said must be true. When I tried to check with a calculation, it turned out that the opposite is the case.

Another UPDATE: I a cousin comment, Retric proves that the integral of 1/log(x)^2 diverges. The point is that log(n)^2 < n for x > 2 (you can prove this by calculus: the only maximum of the function log(x)^2/x is at x=e). So

I thought about this for a second, and it seems that you are right: if the primes were distributed randomly, the twim prime conjecture would be true (see below). Are there any analytic number theorists in the audience to explain what the qu

I am wondering if someone who understands statistics better than I do could explain conceptually how encrypted data is distinguishable from compressed data. I always assumed that Shannon's paper says that perfectly compressed data sho

There's nothing wrong with what you are doing. There is no law that states that all open source libraries in the world should be perfectly documented, and have a set of tutorials that would gently teach anyone as much as he wants about

I always thought that what makes Haskell particularly readable are the types: to understand what a function does, it is often enough, and always helpful, to understand what type it takes to what types. So, when the first type I see in a Tut

You have to figure out how you feel, so that these feelings do not rule you forever. It will take a lot of time, a lot of pain, and even more patience, but you have to remember that a hard year or longer is little compared to your whole lif

I think that bsamuels' point about replies is also important: I sometimes reply to comments with the intention to be helpful to the author of the comment, not necessarily everybody else.

The position of government on various issues is far from meaningless. It is as close as we can get to a tangible representation of the common (majority) opinion and common will of the mass of people that makes up a country (see below for a

You're right, but it's important that a smaller aircraft implies fewer potential casualties. The best thing would be to rate accidents by the log of the actual number of casualties, but that's not too intuitive.

This would be really easy to implement using pandoc ( http://johnmacfarlane.net/pandoc/ ), which converts Markdown with extensions and LaTeX formulas into LaTeX. I think it supports Org-mode too. Markdown would be excellent for sharing shor
