I hate to burst your bubble - I work for a Fortune 15 company and it takes us around 4 weeks to quote, purchase, and source a single new server. During the flooding in Thailand last winter which impacted hard drive inventories at our major

If it's an open source app... where can I download the source to run it on my own server? Don't tell me it's open source, then ask me for a credit card number.

Unfortunately, it sounds like it might be time for the iKamasutra team to have a lawyer write a letter to Apple. It seems like they have a pretty clear cut case of unfair treatment towards their app. Sometimes, a letter from a lawyer is a

Most of those don't have a decent graphics card that can run 1080p video and do H.264 decoding in hardware like the AppleTV. They make great Linux boxes, but are lacking in the media center department.

This is why $75,000 a year is not a fair salary. Joel is intentionally hiring college students because they are uneducated about what their real job prospects are if they are willing to move to NYC.

I hate to tell you this, but doing all the right things up through college doesn't entitle you to a guaranteed job upon graduation. You still have to pull yourself up from your bootstraps, pound the pavement (figuratively), and get your fi

Interesting article, but isn't $75,000 a year pretty much slave wages in Manhattan? You could barely afford a small studio apartment for that much, and most likely need to live outside of downtown and commute in every day.

Managing $1T in client assets doesn't sound like a job for a lowly VP. Your comment is mostly an ad-hominem attack against the author because he may or may not have received a smaller bonus this year.

Short and overly simple answer: If a program allocates 2GB of RAM, it might not need to use it all right away. The kernel pretends like it just gave the program 2GB of RAM, but it doesn't really need to flush all those unused pages of cac
