You imply there's only a few. There's always a way. If they make it hard to get the source code in an automated manner, they'll violate some of their licenses. We'll see.. This is going to be a game of cat and mouse. I

The notion of a post RHEL sources world is rather silly. This just makes things harder. As long as the source is out there, and the licenses of the code itself it permissive: Rebuilds will happen. How will the code get to the people doing

Honestly: It isn't. You can share what you were given. The vendor can decide NOT to share the next version with you. The GPL talks about your rights, etc, with regards to what you GET. Not guaranteeing any future updates, prices, etc

Very unlikely that Rocky will become defacto. Companies I trust before Rocky: - Oracle - SuSE - Canonical Distros I know will survive pretty much no matter what: - Debian Now... What am I going to bet on if I'm a company who just got c

There's so many things that make me question this one: 1. It assumes company structure will stay the same. It won't. If 2 engineers and 1/2 a QA can do what a full 10-12 person team does... I can't see a manager leadin

The biggest resources you have access to: 1. Your manager. Simply expressing that you want to advance is important. 2. The example of people in those positions. Especially the people in those positions you RESPECT. 3. Start working on you

Then they shouldn't have poked the bear. By taking out the CentOS Foundation, which was NEVER going to sell support. They created 2 companies that will sell support, and they still have the same issue. At the WORST those companies wil

Amazon missed then, the company to bet on is SuSE here. Both Oracle and Amazon Linux have VERY bright futures for their use-cases. Do you run Oracle? Want to know your distro will be supported 100%. Oracle Linux seems like a damn good bet

This looks like the worst of all worlds. You get TCP on both sides of the connection and QUIC in the middle, which will be acting as a single stream protocol, not getting to use all of its advantages.

It is the very reason the license exists. It is in the spirit and the letter of the license to do binary only distribution. Why do you think so many companies are pushing the Apache License 2.0 over the GPL?

An idea: If piper is clearer for you, it can "compile" down into make, and then let gmake do the heavy lift, at least for some of the early prototyping.
