There are plenty of experiments that show that this is pseudoscience and we don't need quantum phenomenon to explain consciousness. Maybe none of those theories explain the hard problem of consciousness, which is why do we feel or sens

When we feel dread we feel it in our body, like most emotions. LLMs definitely cannot experience emotions in the way animals do because they have no body or sensory experience other than text and images input.

Words need to mean something to be useful. In this discussion words like "awareness" and "consciousness" are being used in such an imprecise way as to not have useful meaning. They are sort of stand-ins for "alive&q

Maybe that's why I'm not rich? Because I am honest? I think this culture of normalizing lying means that more and more humans are just garbage. Because being able to trust someone is telling the truth is just a fundamental part of

AssemblyAI's most recent models are incredible. I think you aren't accurately assessing leading edge STT or how your young self would judge this capability level.

There are many curves. It's a series of sigmoids. There are many innovations to keep up with the expected constant performance increases and demand. They started running out of data, then curated it, then spent more time on inference.

The problem with this is that it's supposedly about predicting the future but actually bases everything on LLM's current capabilities. It's incredible that people still haven't figured out or won't accept or plan fo

There are a lot of ways to skin a cat. I doubt that most of how Linux works is really ideal at this point. (Which is not to say it's easy to replace or impractical). But that structure/API is very similar to many similar patterns

Are coffee shops just the answer to having social spaces that aren't alcohol fueled like bars and clubs? For quite a while I have had a rough idea that there could be something along the lines of a bar but with no alcohol and some kind

I wish they would copy this one https://github.com/webmachinelearning/prompt-api and include a few options for small self-hosted LLMs using WebGPU or some built-in accelerated AI for Firefox.

I like the idea of using a password manager, but I think we should be aware that can create a single point of failure. For example, the LastPass breaches.

Within five or ten years (maybe a little longer for some physical jobs), AI and robotics will probably be able to do ALL current jobs. So you should tell those people they also need a new plan. I think the best idea is to learn how to lever

Is this better than Firecracker? I was thinking about using that but it needs nested virtualization and the servers that support that aren't as good of a value. Anyone know a good option for nested virtualization that is inexpensive? H

I don't think that makes sense in general, but does remind me of an idea I had where it does make sense: 8-bit program synthesis. Your dataset is all of the 6502 binaries, corresponding manuals, and descriptions of gameplay generated b

I just assume the real reason is that it's an island and there is relatively little competition. The government and power companies can work together to take whatever they want from you and you can't stop them.
