I can see nothing about where the servers are, which can impact latency dramatically in some cases. I have to serve to a chunk of our users in China, and I need to have at least a server in Asia. Am I missing something?

I don't know why my sibling comment is dead, but windows is the only non POSIX and UNIX-like still relevant. May be there is a niche non-UNIX OS that I don't know about? OS X is POSIX certified, and Linux and BSD are obviously U

Wouldn't it make sense to consider that, for instance, my dropbox or google accounts are amongst "my effects"? Yes, in a sense I'm handling data to a 3rd party, but in another sense they're just today's noteboo

Could awareness of the tension between the two be the difference between doublethink and intelligence, as defined by GP? I love the irony in following the first quote by holding both quotes in my mind, and considering that there is some wis

I agree, having to swap your battery is a pain in the ass, but even with a good battery life in the days it's nice to have that option as a backup. The main attractive of a swappable battery, to me, is replacing it 2 after 2 years of u

Not that I agree with them, but their point seemed to be that their service is accesible to all, independently of their wealth. That close, but not the same as free.

How are you then defining general-purpose? I'd say a language is general-purpose when it has not been tailored to a specific scenario or area of problems, but to work well for most. Isn't that, to a great extent, true for go?

I also think that the "no competition" point is overblown, but Sublime was still quite unique. It is very general purpose, not focused on any particular domain like Brackets, multiplatform, and with a great plugin ecosystem. It wa

nvpy is a functional but admitedly very ugly linux clone. Both can use Simplenote, which works similarly if you're fine with a webapp. For the windows crowd there is the also ugly-but-functional ResophNotes.

I coded in C# for a few years, used plenty of Lambdas and a handful of annotations in Class definitions. Everytime I had to go back to Java I missed them to death. I never felt like interface patching was a problem for me, may be because I&

We use thought experiments about magically appearing money, but the aim would be to later try to apply those ideas to more realistic cases of, for instance, risk-taking.
