No, the implications of this do not include "intelligent chips". Neurons aren't "smarter" than something we can currently create digitally, and if anything they transmit information more slowly. The primary use of technology like this? Bett

For me, todos wouldn't add much. Todos require something with more sophistication than any calendaring apps I use (BusyCal, iCal or GoogleCal, all at different times.); I use Things, and could probably stand to move to OmniFocus. You can't

Out of curiosity, why did you switch to OSX? I'm on OSX now, and I love much of it, but the author's points ring very true. I'm less and less sure every day why I stay on Mac as apposed to Arch, which I use on my servers.

Those points are all reasons I get closer, every day, to switching to Arch. However, OSX still has a lot over the Linices. To name a few advantages: Great applications/uses that require a Mac: 1. Todo lists (Omnifocus or Things): I manage f

I've been using *nix for a while, but there are things in here I haven't used (tr, for example, and I haven't used much awk). A nice little diversion, and it's something I'd feel comfortable showing to a newbie if I were nearby to help out.

Maybe I should have been more clear; the costs of education go up concurrently with with CPI. CPI is used as a general measure of inflation. If you're not taking that into account, you're measuring the change in nominal, not real dollars. T

What a load of crap. Look at the CPI: that should be subtracted from the ENTIRE graph to show that most things on there have in fact deflated over time (is that even true), and that the apparently HUGE increases in College Tuition are still

The differences are there; superficially, all clients display tweets in a timeline, and provide the functionality that Twitter.com does. The differences abound, though. Check out http://shawnblanc.net/2011/04/tweetbot-review/ for more.

The original paper is always at the bottom of Ars articles. That's one reason I subscribe. Anyway, there seems to be a growing body of evidence contrary to Chomsky's universal grammar–see Dan Everett for some more, e.g. It's interesting to

Idea: track the upvotes/downvotes/flags of users and compare them to your upvotes/downvotes/flags (and maybe other respected users). If there are striking similarities, take a closer look. If things still look good (observe comments, submis

Earlier that may have been a worry, but I think it's pretty clear by now that's it's only helped. It's entirely possible to write comprehensive, complicated, programs in Clojure, using no Java. There are, too, many Clojure libs that either

Dropbox is on Amazon. You're paying for the kickass desktop/mobile app. Sure, I wish it was less, or that you could get more than 100GB…but this isn't a replacement.

Phone GPS, in my experience, really doesn't. It is inaccurate, oftentimes 100ft off, and certainly drains battery faster than just about anything else. What part of it works, on a phone, for applications such as these? Or were you just sayi
