This article was something of a joke between me and my friends here at MIT- while parts of it are true, parts of it are also patently false ("MIT kids are [...] covered in tattoos—they’re cool and hip and very different. Their clothes are e

Keep in mind that PHP itself is implemented in C ;) But seriously, should it matter? I'd be worried if the website was written in C++. It's a good thing that they can recognize that C++ isn't the right tool for the job.

Am I correct in saying that the only way to find the minimum with perfect accuracy is to iterate over all coordinates (i.e. no shortcuts possible)?

Suggestions: - Add some examples of reasonable programming tasks and prices. I have no idea of what size tasks I should give Codacy and how much I should expect to pay for them. - Let users do other users' tasks and take a percentage cut of

On my iPhone (and most other mobile browsers I'd assume), the default controls beat Chosen's controls every time. There's a reason control implementation is left to the browser. If you do use Chosen, be careful to disable it on mobile.

Focusing on "low-hanging fruit" (things iOS' competitors already have or that are obviously missing) is important, but after a point Apple's going to need to break new ground and innovate. Siri is a great example of this: iOS already ha voi

Not much, I'd imagine. First, since this isn't an ICANN thing, the new TLD will only affect a tiny minority of people who choose to change their DNS servers. Second, I'd imagine most software would try 192.168.0.42 the IP address before 192

You probably know this already, but AT&T relies on most customers using nowhere near their data cap each month; allowing tethering would significantly decrease their profitability. They can make a profit from someone who uses 5gb and pa

I experienced this firsthand when I attended a Microsoft-sponsored WP7 development course at which they were giving free phones to developers. My impression was that, for the price of maybe 30 phones, they got at least a couple high quality

Also interesting is that the campaign chose "Romanians are smart", when they could have used much more positive phrases like "Romanians are friendly". Typically being "smart" is a stereotype already well-covered by too many other ethnicitie

This specific instance might not be, but search suggestions could become as problematic as search results. Try "Rick Santorum is ____".

The problem with this is that, unlike traditional Googlebombing which relies on lots of links to a certain page, "Romanians are smart" will quickly drop off the search suggestions as soon as this campaign loses popularity. Gaming search sug

As I understand it, this is cheating— they used lossy compression on the PNGs to achieve the size reduction.

Most of these look like things that can be automated. It would be really cool to see someone make a Mac app from this that toggles a special powersave mode on/off.

I agree. I suspect the creator didn't start this project until that morning, though, so there's no way he/she could have gotten that data. Notice that the video doesn't begin at midnight, but rather 8 A.M.

I really don't understand what the author is trying to prove here. Countless sites let people upload and share free-form information (a few that come to mind: Dropbox, Gmail, Facebook) in ways that would be much easier for pirates to use th

I can't imagine this having much positive effect– if I were a politician, I'd just hang up as soon as I realized it was a robocall. If anything, it'll probably make it more difficult for actual people trying to talk to their representatives

Lifehacker featured my app a few years ago too. The wave lasted for a few weeks and then petered out as you might expect. My best advice is to start worrying about user retention in a hurry. 99% of people who come to your site from Lifehack

While it's probably possible, it's far from ideal. You'd certainly have to put in more effort, and you'd likely end up with an inferior product. I am a diehard Apple fan, but in this case I have to recommend a nexus.

I think this is highly unlikely, and if true, would probably be a bad move for Apple. The message they need to send to the world most strongly right now is that they can survive without Jobs; releasing an iPad on his birthday only serves to
