I am actually getting quite tired of having Twitter, Facebook, and now G+ connected comments. I don't like giving out those permissions. At the same time, I'm getting tired of needing separate logins for Disqus, Livefyre, etc. I comment les

They may retain customers with their ecosystem, but overly-general statements from tech bloggers don't determine what Apple sells. Buyers do. It's hard to argue that the only thing Apple sells is "an ecosystem" unless that's how buyers buy.

This is really awesome. It's definitely a step in the right direction, anyway. If the tool really catches on, though, there's an easy loophole that spammers have been using to trick Google for the last ten years. You simply load the content

The figures don't include pirating. If HBO had been smart enough to launch and promote HBO GO as a stand-alone service, pirating would be lower and streaming/revenue/official viewership would be higher.

The second graph should start at 0. It gives the illusion that the change has been more drastic than it was. Personally I don't drive because I can't really afford a car, and with new services like Zipcar I no longer need my own vehicle.

My brother was furloughed, so I know a bit about this. Basically the democrats and republicans said, "it will never come to that." Then they couldn't compromise, and ended up passing a really crude budget cut with no foresight, planning, or

This doesn't make sense. As we engineer stem cells from skin cells, it becomes theoretically possible to turn every cell in your body into life. When you shower, you're killing millions of potential humans. We must treat things as they are,

Interesting, but this touches on the surface of a question that the study couldn't hope to answer. The journey towards becoming a human is a long and complex process, and any attempt to pinpoint a moment must be arbitrary at some point. It'

The only thing remarkable about these comments is how unremarkable they are. I'm not sure digging for tiny details from a killer is helpful. I understand that we want to know why killers do what they do, but we end up basically turning them

There is a lot of hate here for the "vigilantes" who singled him out. In no way do I approve of the subreddit devoted to finding these people, but I think many of the comments here blow what happened out of proportion. No one arrested him,

I imagine that Google will be working its way north, up through Orem and Bluffdale where the NSA, Adobe, and a number of other large tech companies are. There are some SLC suburbs up north that are running failed fiber networks, too, so I i

Sadly, our government is still reactive with a put-a-bandaid-on-it mentality. It's a lot easier than dealing with the underlying flaws allowing anyone to corner any market and manipulate prices, and you don't have to fight against your dono

No ads. That makes sense - I don't want to see ads that close to my face when struggling to read an already-tiny screen. As a customer... the "free" line is upsetting and confusing. I would like to pay for good apps instead of relying on ho

I believe https://clipboard.com/ has been doing this for a while, too. It'll be interesting to see if there's a market for these services along with Evernote and similar.

Our behavior is interesting, given the post I just read on how news is so rarely worth reading and watching. I see a lot of people at work looking for the latest updates. Someone’s watching TV in the next room – they’re just repeating every

You know something is wrong when the complex and evolutionary trees of "mammals" and "eukaryotes" are single points on a graph. If the geekbait Moore's Law didn't tip you off, the paper is garbage.

These people are going to have to eventually accept that cameras will continue getting better and smaller. They're going to have to adapt somehow. It's tough for casinos, but would you really go with off-the-shelf Glass to cheat? You'd hope

Correct me if I'm wrong - I don't know how Bitcoin works - but this shouldn't impact prices. At least, it wouldn't matter with currency trading. You can offer $.02 per Euro all day, and you'll just be ignored with no impact. If this is not

You'll see no argument from me there. Understanding underlying mechanisms requires a degree of systemic knowledge far beyond that needed for an observational study, which is one reason we see far fewer of them. The other reason is funding.

Criticism regarding association, while valid, is largely irrelevant. You need to understand that a clinical trial on this matter is nearly impossible. 1) Imagine the cost of holding a clinical trial over 20 years. 2) Imagine the difficulty

Why do they "need" to do that? Those who care for the details already know them. Further, they're trying to put the issue behind them without blaming anyone. Rather than fueling the fire further, they shut the door on further argument about
