I like this idea! I think that it makes sense for prospects that are either already contractors, or perhaps the unemployed. If you already have a job, then I can see some challenges though - I'd imagine a candidate for Google would not be

Definitely an interesting article and one worth reading. I work a lot on viral growth and I'd like to add a counterpoint that the growth of apps is so complicated that it is basically impossible to model in a useful way. I've found that eve

The fb policy is that you aren't allowed to incentivize the sending of requests, but you can give a reward for someone accepting a request. A subtle distinction, but a distinction nonetheless.

Funny, I'm on the other side of this (trying to hire a product manager). I prefer PDF, but read the job description, they might like word instead. The majority of resumes I get are pretty boring word docs derived from the standard templates

I'm a proponent of this theory, and it worked for me in Law School. I would only study for two two hour sessions each day, after which I was free to do whatever I wanted. This worked quite well for me, and I always felt fresh and sharp, esp

On a personal level, it is probably best to be happy with your decision, move on and don't be bothered with what other people are doing. As for federated social networks, without a dictator running things it would rapidly degenerate into sp

I only know iTunes. The reports you get are pretty limited. You get downloads by day. You also get "Top Markets" so you can get a breakdown by country. But you can't see age or gender.

This is false - there exists a class of apps where all they do is have a well tuned requests funnel (seriously, that's all the app is), and they are alive and well. See e.g. the MyCalendar franchise: http://appdata.com/apps/facebook/336996

Yes, I work on FB apps that span multiple types of devices. You are correct in that only android users will see the request. I don't see it working all that well for you though, because the requestor won't know which friend uses android. So

I bet they look at the IP address as a signal - people who sign in with common IP addresses have a higher likelihood of knowing each other.

For the wishlist, you can add this to .vimrc: map gf :tabnew Then you can gf over the project name, and then you'll either create a new file with that name or open that file. I use the technique for a personal minimalist wiki: http://idoh.

I did it with a Horoscopes app on Facebook. I don't own it, my employer does. In October of last year it was at 12,000 users a day, and now it is 1.8 million users a day. I did it by having a really nice app, really understanding how to gro

I'm the PM for a horoscopes app, and I much prefer to use relative dates (e.g. yesterday, today, tomorrow) instead of absolute ones (e.g. wednesday, thursday, friday). The problem is that the app serves a worldwide audience, and I don't alw

AppData gets their fb data from publicly available app data from the Facebook API. Based on the FB apps I've worked on, their numbers are just rounded a bit, but are pretty much the same as what a developer would see using Facebook Insights

Just want to add that, despite its name, you can do the same things with publish_actions as you can with publish_stream. It is poorly documented though. The only caveat is as described in my other post.

Here's a couple observations: I've tried the app with a couple test users, I don't see the publish_actions permission come up. I'll assume you are correct though, but you might want to make sure that this is the case. For answering I'll ass

That confuses me a little bit. When I think of Open Graph, I think of making a custom action verb, or using a built in one like "watch". As far as I know you can't post open graph actions without getting the publish_actions permission. So I

I suppose that it's how you go about meeting anybody. Pick a field you think has potential, look up a meeting (say on meetup), go enough to be a regular, drink some beer, talk about it.

A bit drastic. Why not try to meet people in areas that you are interested in? Go to a meetup, I think people would talk to you because you are interested in listening to their problems.
