It's a parliamentary democracy with free elections and independent media. It's also chaotic, corrupt, and violent. It's much worse than Sweden or Switzerland but better than many other Arab countries.

Iraq's current government is still siginficantly better than Saddam's regime, depsite being currupt and somewhat dysfunctional (and things have improved over the years in case you dig up an article from a decade ago about ISIS).

> When we do trunk-based development, the WIP we commit gets used, before any actual user sees it, by our whole team. And of course internal teams love also doing QA on the side of their existing jobs ;) I think that’s fair enough to a

I thought at first it meant stuff like bookkeeping and taxes and got excited…the most boringly mind numbing work that’s still not quite that easy to automate. I’m guessing that too will come soon enough.

Simple apps are the majority of use-cases though - to me this feels like what programming/using a computer should have been all along: if I want to do something I’m curious about I just try with Claude whereas in the past I’d mostly be

Or yahoo- they were the premier sellers of ad space online (like google today) and made a lot of money from over-funded tech companies overpaying for online advertising during the boom years.

This was also the case with indie games around roughly 2008-2012. Didn't last for long though!

I keep macbooks longer, but PC laptops I've had would often start breaking in ways that were too expensive to be worth repairing around that time. I had a Dell XPS whose screen had issues and replacing it (some custom touch screen that

I worked with and known a bunch of Polish devs (in Poland), certainly a very high quality talent pool. There are also great devs in Romania and a lot of the countries that were part of former-Yugoslavia. I never understood how there can be

It doesn't undermine your point, but if you mean gross yearly wage $25k is not an amazing salary for senior software developers in Poland (I guess it depends where in Poland).

I made a somewhat similar blunder to the original poster at a job some years ago. I got a dressing down from the CEO and that's it, went back to work and never heard of it again. As far as I can tell it had no effect on my career at th

It was not - 68000 and 68020 (and 68030 of course) based systems were still sold later than that. The highest end mac in 1990 was 68030 based ( https://everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_ii/specs/mac_iifx.htm.

We’re in an LLM bubble and their money is cheap as they’re drowning in investor money and have to spend it + show growth. If it doesn’t make economic sense you probably can’t count on it to last once the bubble bursts.

I found all recent models to be "good enough" for my use (coding assistance). I've settled on just using Claude 4. At the same time the experience also makes me less worried about this tech making programmers obsolete...

Assuming there remains more than one vendor, where the lock-in? I use Claude 4 via an IDE plug-in and both Claude and the plug-in (and the IDE!) are replaceable.

The internet ended up just as big as predicted in 1995 (or bigger) - it just took a bit longer. What do we not have online today that was predicted in 1995?

The answer to that depends on when the VC bubble bursts- if it lasts long enough costs will eventually drop far enough. Pets.com was a .com-boom era joke but today I actually buy my pet-food online and I'm pretty sure nobody is subsidi
