Misleading headline from The Register; no fault of alexandros for posting to HN verbatim, but misleading nonetheless. After all, I think this 'lockdown' is a great idea. FF has a totally reasonable interface for addons, so there's no need

Seriously? A bug report that identifies a DOS condition gets flagged as "won't fix" -- and Zed's followup explains, with details, why it should be fixed, and what the fix should be. I tried, and I couldn't find anything asshole-ish about t

If you want to actually decode the crop formation, here's how to do it. First, grab tello's PNG, which is a transformed and color-adjusted version of the crop formation: https://files-diers.us.s3.amazonaws.com/cornfield.png Next, downloa

Cool PNG! As an update, I'm still trying to get the semacode software to work in OS X, and it's just not cooperating. Sun recently pre-released a J2ME environment for OSX, which is frustratingly buggy... Here's a link to the SDK: http://j

This is really neat looking, but ... how exactly do you execute the code? It appears that the release from semacode.com targets cellphones exclusively, so I can't get it to run on the command line. wget http://semacode.com/download/sem

Did anyone else think that article/excerpt ended a little strangely? First, this investor is set up as an authority figure in bear markets, then it reports where his current trajectory is headed, at which point the article abruptly ends. G

Agreed - delivery is the important aspect, when it comes to just-in-time order fulfillment. If they don't deliver, then you don't deliver either. On your last point, I agree again: scale is critical. You describe something that might work

The more I think about the video, the more disappointed I become. You're right: these "genius entrepreneurs" were selling the time of their classmates. The 3-minute slot had no value if their classmates didn't tolerate the fact that their

Agreed. I think there are some strange syntax quirks ("go to", versus "enter" would be hard to parse into separate tokens because whitespace isn't a token delimiter). However, the syntax for "variables" is obvious, and the nesting of paren

Did you just use "hackers" and "too extensible" to describe your problem? :) As I see it, ledger has two excellent interfaces: text files (i.e. the ledger itself, where the transactions are stored) and the command line. You extend it with

Thanks for correcting the voltage/current error - you're totally right about that. Great idea about the voltage pulse! Let me see if I have this right: with a known voltage, the current will rise in proportion to the nearness of the penny?
