Probably just the fact they can build completely "in house" with no dependencies. A lot like the appeal of static binaries (with plentiful drawbacks ofc)

The only point here that _may_ be considered valid is #5: Crowd sourced decisions may be bad for you. The reason one could consider this to be true is that often open source design is hype driven, and not long term benefit driven. Exception

I wrote the 927 reference, not the commenter you're replying to. I agree with you both, though the joke wrote itself! Of course conferences don't "compete," no more than journals "compete," especially in a worl

The point is that they should have been innovating all this time, instead they rested on their laurels and bashed alternatives, and here we are.

I think the point of this blog and YouTube channel is to make these concepts approachable to the lay person, and introducing lots of technical jargon (relevant though it may be to actual geotechnical engineers) is not the best way to accomp

We're a medical device startup using a KB/RBR system for glucose control, and our greatest feature from a traceability/regulatory perspective is the ability to produce a report for each and every decision made; why we made th

Based on your comment I thought you only thought it applied when you deleted the history, just wanted to clarify.

Even if the history is exactly the same , GitHub only tracks forks made through the fork button. A true git fork (eg anonymous clone, push to brand new repo, preserving all commit history) is not tracked.

▲

This is only true if you use the fork button. You can easily create a new repo, clone the old repo, and push to the new repo. GitHub will not show a fork relationship between the two.

When you have these devices running business critical operations, businesses are usually willing to pay more for enterprise level support, which isn't really an option for Arduino (not directly from the manufacturer at least).

The problem is not that nobody wants to create or use such an API, the problem is that so much infrastructure and tooling is built up around the S3 API that to forgo it would be to leave your customers high and dry when it comes to integrat

It's not the number of sensors, it's the novelty of the voting algorithm required to fuse those sensors that gives them pause. FDA likes to be _VERY_ conservative when it comes to trying new things. We're trialing our control

Sure, it's a very bulky device and expensive to run! But, when you're talking about 'real' blood glucose, it's the gold standard that you need to use to pass regulatory scrutiny.

"Real" blood glucose is glucose as measured by a reference standard device, like the YSI 2500, arterial blood gas machine etc. Finger pricks are accurate to within ~15% of the real blood sugar, and reference machines like the YSI

This is a great point, and precisely why we're using two sensors and a simple voting algorithm in our first in man trial (3+ sensors and associated algorithms were deemed too risky by FDA for initial studies).

I've done accuracy studies of the G6 for a submission to the FDA, and while it's true they do filter out spikes, they're never more than 5mg/dL off from the measured value (which itself is usually within 10% of the real

Hi, this is actually my field of expertise! IdealMedTech is a clinical glucose control startup targeting inpatient glucose control. Having an MARD (mean absolute relative difference, or in math terms, E[|g-r|/r], g is measured glucose,
