I like that MIT is willing to embrace the internet as a teaching channel and open minded enough to be willing to question its approach. After reading the comments posted here I wanted to add that, as I'm sure most hackers/entrepre

For those reading this article, there are problem solving methods that will give you a solution to 'the Candle Problem'. I highly recommend the McKinsey Method and reading the book, "The McKinsey Way".

Thanks for this, I use Perforce http://www.perforce.com/ but I've always wondered about using Git. Now I don't have an excuse not to give learning about it a go.

Okay well there isn't any right answer here and honestly what you are asking is extremely broad. Any advice is only valuable if it is tailored to your situation. My biggest question to you is, “do you have a business plan?” Sure the

Yes I agree with this, however my take would be to think of it as a statistic... how many nos you need to get to a yes. Right now you don't know your base 'conversion' stats so you don't know how many nos give you a yes

I read HN everyday and I value the commentary as much as the articles. This change has the potential to censor my contribution to that commentary. So while I think there is a lot going for the idea, I think there will be a lot of good comme

Great article. While I agree that writing skill is incredibly important, I disagree with Mr. Tan's advice to just 'write lots and keep reducing your text' as the best way to go about writing clearly. I certainly didn't

Well if you write puts willy nilly then you deserve to have your money taken. That's why you look at historical volatility and other criteria when selecting a watch list.

For clarification you write puts at or out of the money. If executed, the premium earnt offsets the difference between strike price and spot price. No one is saying this guarantees against a market crashes but it acts as a cushion. You are

Yes, what sireat is saying is somewhat true. However with options I believe you have a greater flexibility and more opportunity to make gains when compared to trading stock on its own. With this strategy you have the chance to protect your

I wouldn't trade stock per se, I would trade LEAPS or use a combination of options and stock trading. For example, enter the market by writing Puts, earn a premium and if executed you then own shares at a discount. Then turnaround and

There are several levels to what is wrong. I have dedicated the last 5 years to discovering what is going on so I will try my best to condense it down. In terms of a 'shorter' business cycle view (less than 10 year perspective) to
