I asked a similar question a few months back and got some pretty interesting responses: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1584988

I wonder if it would have gotten a better reception if it was "RelatedStoriesBot" instead of "DupDetector". I used it as a way to find more comments on a topic, and liked it pretty well for that. Of course, I liked it when RiderOfGiraffes w

Surely many successful marriages have started by finding each other on dating sites, right? I don't think anyone is suggesting diving in to a full-blown partnership on the basis of what you see on a webpage.

I would be happy to have whatever conversation you'd like over email. There's not much point in bickering like this here.

Okay, but just so we're clear: This is missing parts of the conversation.

Okay, then why are people responding to me at the bottom of the log when I haven't said anything in it?

This is missing parts of the conversation; but seriously Jacques, I've got no appetite for making this about you. We both agree that it's easy to phish people. I disagreed then and still disagree now that the right way to do that is to emba

That's how it's being spun now, and perhaps in the email that went out today that I have not been privy to (probably because I voiced my disagreement with the idea at the time). That's not how it was being discussed at the time.

He was discussing it in channel. How is that different than a publicly held conversation? I only happened to catch it because I switched into my client for a minute while doing a deployment. This was not a private conversation.

No, he did not contact me about it at all. It was being discussed in irc. I told him I thought it was a terrible idea there, but since it was still being pursued, I posted here.

It's a cultural difference. In the US, people refer to the named entity (is). In the UK, they refer to the collection of people that make up the entity (are).

Here's a faster way of telling if you're dealing with a toxic (corporate) customer: See how they react when you say "no" to something. This is them on their best behavior too; if the reaction is nasty then you have your answer.

It could be a regional idiom, like "ain't" or "y'all". I'm in the southwest, it seems like people mostly use "news english".

I'm not sure what you're referring to; I don't know anybody that uses "could care less".

Sorry, let me clarify. It makes it hard for me to make money using their platform if I have to pay them $50 / user / month. Clearly it's very profitable for Salesforce.

I was just checking out force.com and left pretty quickly after discovering they want $50 / user per month. Makes it pretty hard to make money that way.
