Can you explain the one-time pad application a bit more? It seems to me that if Alice and Bob can share a bunch of entangled qbits, they could just as easily share a classical one-time pad. What am I missing?

I don't know the answer to that, but the problem may be that Rust is decent enough name to overcome any proposed name changes. I've always thought you should use implausible codenames for just this reason. It forces you to change it instead

Right, you sandbag and then you look like a hero. That argues it's a good idea, but if anything clarifies how artificial it is.

When you exceed your sales target, the thing you did was set your target incorrectly. It's great that they're selling lots of cars, but "exceeded the target" is a wholly artificial accomplishment.

Why? I don't see any reason that Github has to be that just because that's how most people use it. I find this particular project a bit silly, but there's nothing wrong with it as a use of Github.

It isn't new, and people have been joking about finger smears since this kind of unlock mechanism came out (I remember making this discovery myself and promptly switching my phone back to using a number pad). But it is worse than shoulder-s

I find this challenging. I want to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but when you get let down over and over, you start taking mental shortcuts, even unfair ones. Humans are good at that. I was at PAX East, and there were a lot of

Sigh. I was worried I'd see this comment when I clicked "discuss". Look, I think having a dance performance at your tech conference is a bit silly. But so what? It's definitely not actively bad, it's not like it's somehow mandatory if you a

It does. But consider all the other times this record must have been broken -- wasn't a big news story. Incremental increases in the bytes/second record just aren't, by themselves, that interesting.

This has long been my argument for the long-term desirability of socialism. But in my thinking, it's a bit more complicated than you make it out to be. Consumption doesn't really contribute to the economy in the relavent way; labor does. Th

FWIW, I think it's great. One of the things that bugged me about this whole sordid business was the crazy and untrue implication that women are too dainty to handle off-color jokes, or that if you think they're funny, then you're against wo

It would be pedantic, I think, if I were to say, "you shouldn't say that because it doesn't make sense." But I genuinely hope that it does make sense and that someone will explain it to me.

Right, I worded that poorly. You need some other vulnerability for the attacker to pull this trick off. But, like homokov says, there are a lot of possibilities for that. Obviously, such a vulnerability is bad on its own and the site owner

I don't disagree with the OP's basic point about not making "get 1% of huge market" your strategy. As SoftwareMaven points out above, getting 1% of a market is not a strategy at all, it's a result, and it's not going to happen just because

This is a really terrible attitude. Apparently, airplanes are this magical place where you're not supposed to be treated like a human being. By "acting entitled", you seem to mean "acting like he's entitled to fly on the plane he bought a t
