Better marketing, I suppose. Many people really think Linux = Ubuntu.

Wouldn't Debian be a safer choice? Ubuntu is just layers on top of Debian (one of the layers being the "pro" thing, it seems...). So Debian should the the obvious solution. RHEL would be the most likely to move in the same

And that's essentially what has happened. We are sicker than ever because we have easy cures. The problem is that modern medicine works on the symptoms, not on root causes. So the more we "cure" symptoms, the more sick we bec

cmus [1] is the closest I found to foobar2000. It is my main music player now, after years of disappointment. It supports FLAC and they claim they support CUE sheets, although I haven't tested your particular scenario. The way I use it

Another plus I see with ncurses: you can use the same abstractions from any language that has bindings to the C libraries. For these new-fangled frameworks though... Like Textualize? You have to use Python. Fancy Golang? You have to go with

What is a terminal meant to do then and who says that? Actually I would argue that graphical UIs copied terminal UIs that existed first and in some cases they did not catch up even as of now. See file managers. There is Total Commander on W

I'm the opposite. I still have that 100GB+ music collection on my laptop, all curated by myself (with the help of last.fm), organized in folders and with proper ID3 tags, which I spent years building when I was young and had no bette

Very similar conclusions to what I got to. Just a couple of days ago I watched this video on YT - Designing Tide by Yoshua Wuyrts [1] and I really loved everything about tide. On the other hand, it seems that this guy was (is) sponsored by

I learned a lot about synthesis and sound design from Sonic Pi, and yet Sonic Pi goes much much further than being a synth, since it also works with samples, and most importantly with time and synchronization! No idea about the chain smoker

There are actually prebuilt packages for Debian as well, which can also work on Ubuntu. I compiled it myself on Fedora and it works great. It wasn't too hard. Perhaps I should just document the steps somewhere. What I tried and failed

Same here. I think mapping is fun and it should be done by people who love doing it. Doing it because you get a pair of socks or some smiley clippy character telling you something cute is very different.

I tried to look at it that way, but... it only helps other people until Google decides to drop that particular feature, after which all your work is gone forever.

Indeed, once you understand that you also understand the opposite - central banking and CBDCs. It's two opposite worldviews which lead to two very different definitions of money.

Is it still relevant after the coming ETH merge? The way I see it, if crypto moves to PoS, it becomes very centralized and simply a playground for whales. I see it as a Bitcoin (hard money) versus fiat currencies game, with crypto falling u

Diversified as always. I moved to a rural area 10 years ago, so firewood is always a must. Also plenty of land. Also any tools that I think I would need. Savings only in BTC and some physical gold. No stocks or fiat.

Very good point, I didn't think about the propagation function of the nodes. Indeed, a node would only propagate blocks it accepts as valid. But how does that help the network except by saving some bandwidth? In the end, "bad&qu

The problem, if you go that route, is how you define participating in consensus. Say I have a fully synced and always up to date Bitcoin node, running on a Pi in my closet, that I only use to make and receive payments, which I very rarely d
