Nice to see Snowflake coming out of beta. They're going to make a big impact. Redshift, vertica, netezza, and aster will not be be able to compete.

Caltrain was not built to be a high volume short distance commuter train. Which is why the shuttles exist. The shuttles are a crutch.

I know people at both Uber and Lyft and will say that Lyft has just as many assholes as Uber. Given both companies have great people, this article is about Uber being the unlikable of both of them and there are reasons to not like either c

The sarcastic side of me would like to say that facebooks success is due to the recent increase in embedded video links in the news feeds. The videos are annoying. But FBs reach is increasingly impressive. Surely that's the driver.

More than likely this is the straw that broke the camels back and not a knee jerk reaction to uncommon bad behavior.

This reminds me that there was a time when eBay had no organic search traffic. A few pages were indexed. About the same time eBay launched their API. An enterprising college student created a site from ebays API. Normally this wouldn't

The first rule of crossfit is to tell everyone that you are taking crossfit. I went to crossfit in the bay area. Seriously some of the most annoying people in the world.

Pretty insightful article about growing fast. It's a shame that people are overlooking the content of this article and instead using hackernews as their personal version of Consumer Reports. Posting personal communications between yo

It is worth pointing out that AsterData and Redshift are built on pgSQL. From what I have read, this is due to licensing issues. MySQL is ok but I'm unconvinced that MySQL is a good option for single instance terabyte size databases.

Didnt this same thing happen in April 2013? Somehow a DDOS attack drove the price from $250 to $75. Then it went back up. My guess is the same thing happens here. Two years ago people used to bitch when the price dipping below $15. Her

This reminds me. Bitcoin is so complicated and controversial these days. I miss the days before 2013 when bitcoins were used almost exclusively on the deep web among nerds.

If I were in HR then I would be reaching out to any employee that I see is under paid. Likewise I would not reach out to any employee that I think is over paid. Perhaps consider keeping this data internal.

The guy who bought these coins is a douche. The fact is bitcoins are highly unstable and he bought them when the price was high(for this week). It is doubtful he would have had the sense to sell them before todays drop. If he really beli

I've used homejoy 8 times so far. I'm shocked at how cheap it is. Every one of my cleaners has been nice. One seemed kinda cracked out but still did a decent job. Good to see homejoy continuing to expand.

I'm too lazy to dig up the kickstarter project. But basically you can accomplish the same result (chilling beer quickly) with better results by attaching a beer to the end of a drill and spinning it in a bucket of ice.
